Re: What kind of computer do you use

Holy smokes, you guys have some really nice systems. I love my Samsung Syncmaster 1200nf, otherwise I hope to upgrade in a while. Get a big monitor with a healthy refresh rate at high resolutions, you won't regret the extra cost, being a gamer and all...

Yes the 9800XT was replaced by the X800(which is a completely different formfactor...PCI Express I believe).

You said the 9800 Pro was replaced by the X800. Was just wondering why you skipped the XT.

I will upgrade to PCI Express when it comes down in price a bit.

Smile Re: What kind of computer do you use

My system:
Gigabyte GA-8iHXP main board
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz processor
1BG Samsung PC1066 RDRAM
2 X 80GB 7200rpm Maxtor drives in stripe set (aka RAID 0)
Radeon 9800 Pro AGP
Audigy 2 sound
Altec Lansing THX certified 2.1 speakers. (from old system)
Trinitron 21" flat CRT

Recently Built for friend:
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP main board
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz processor
1GB Corsair TwinX (matched) DDR400 running at dual channel
2 x 80GB 7200 rpm Maxtor SATA drives in stripe set (RAID 0)
Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti4200
Audigy 2 sound
Altec Lansing ATP3 (2.1) sound system
NEC 17" flat panel LCD

Given the release of the socket 775 and supporting 9XX chipsets, I'd wait a few months and see what the price of the socket 478 technology does. If it dips, then you'll have an opportunity to get a fast, stable system at a good price. The only caveat is upgradability.
