steam with new graphics update...

i noticed recently that whenever i play half life 2 or counter strike: source, my models and certain surroundings are "extremely glossy" or "shiny." one thing certain: this is definitely a glitch from steam update. however, i have a feeling that this isn't just another update, i think this is a preparation before lost coast comes in cuz from what i recall, lost coast is extremely graphical and is recommended to high end computers.

anybody got a clue on what's going on?
