Video games are meant to be played, not watched. I don't know how long it's going to take for hollywood to figure this out. Although this movie is going to make a ton of money so I suppose they don't care.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children (a movie based upon the PS1 RPG game, Final Fantasy 7), is one of the best movies I have ever seen. 'nough said.

Re: What's The Rock Cookin' In Doom?
What I'm really getting at is instead of bringing the video game to the cinema, bring the cinema to the video game. There's tons of potential for story telling in video games, you don't need to transfer mediums to accomplish it. And yes, I know this is happening but there is just no point to adapt videogames to film unless somebody want's to make some money.
As far as I'm concerned they've all been bad apples. What will work well in a videogame won't neccesarily work well at all in a film. The charm of a video game is that you can immerse yourself in a completely differen't world to the point at which you live another life. In a movie there is no way that will happen. And then you have to count in other factors such as pacing or form and the conversion really does not work at all. |
