Re: Occupation?

I manage the books for my father's small business, but am in the process of transferring that job onto my successor. It’s a terribly boring job that was supposed to hold me over while I went to school. Now that I have graduated, I hope to soon be putting my computer engineering degree to good use. I'm looking to get into hardware development, but will settle for a software job if necessary.

Re: Occupation?

My main job is applying for jobs. Between that I am a Business / Informations analyst.

I got a degree in neuroscience but realised that I hated the red tape of academia as much as the prospect of killing rats for a living, so didn't persue it.

Best job: Security for the McLaren hospitality suite at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix 2002.

Re: Occupation?

If anyone is looking for an entry level federal law enforcement position, DHS ICE has just announce nationwide vacancies for Immigration Enforcement Agents.

https://cbpmhc.hr-services.org/IEA/

Go to www.usajobs.gov to view the vacancy announcement (under "jobs in demand"). This is a good job by itself, but is also a great stepping stone for much better fed agent jobs!

The guys in Dallas that have this job are pulling down over 80k a year. Overtime includes such terrible duties, like escorting deported aliens to their homeland VIA Amsterdam! Oh, and they get to say that they work for MIB...

Re: Occupation?

I do hardware repair and web design for public computer labs at the U of I. And my earned degree is in Animal Science. Following your schooling for the win!

Best job I ever had was summer grounds crew for my hometown school district. Bowling alley mechanic is runner up, and I suppose my 4-year stint as a vet assistant runs a very, very distant 3rd. As in, I liked it at the time, but I would never do it again for any amount of money, heh.

I did security for a couple of MotoGP races at Donington Park (10 mins from where I went to Uni)... man the bikes there were crazy, and that was just the spectators! The firm I did the work for hired army guys in on leave to help out. Basically the pay was rubbish for them, but they did it to have a free show. At night they'd jump on their bikes and ride around the track.
