Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

I'd be up for helping with rides. As I said earlier I can go ahead and take pictures of a few of these places.

I suggest (and volunteer) that the guys in Austin help out with the local logistics - ie:
  • Providing rides to/from hotels for out-of-towners
  • Picking up BBQ supplies
  • I dunno, whatever else

It seems totally feasible to me that, if we know the budget for local purchases ahead of time, we could front the cash and get reimbursed later by the contributions to the event.

What say you guys? Beatnik? Mishkan? (Yeah, I know you're 17 ) Ne1 else in Austin?

That's a fabulous idea and thanks for volunteering!

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

What's parking downtown look like on a friday night? Specifically, how much cash and where is a likely open space going to be?

Xink, how much do you weigh? And do you want to be ship^H^H^H^H flown priority or first class?

Also: Google earth is your friend!

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

We should probably get each other's cellphone numbers at some point. Probably a good while before we do this that way we can:
1. Help people getting into Austin with traffic
2. Direct each other around
3. Discuss plan changes if necessary
4. Figure out where the other is

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

So who's gonna drive to California for me?

I would SO like to go, considering im a newbie to anything LAN (well sort of), and would like to partake in the 3B's, along with some of y'all, but alas im not of age to drink. Even so, even just meeting some of you crazy characters would be fun.

Yeah, that's a great idea, Mish -- once I get a list of the paid peeps, I'm going to send around a PM with my contact info in it. That way we'll be connected while we're there.

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

Whoops I rarely check this forum so I'm a bit late.

I can definitely help with picking up the food and even cooking it. I like the BBQ.

Parking downtown on weekends is murder. You'll pay at least $7 a car to park down there. Be warned. Although there are a lot of bars down there...

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

My brother lives within walking distance of Zilker. We can probably put a couple cars there, and if we carpool, that's, what, 8 people?
But anyway, splitting the parking per car at zilker would be <2 per person. No biggie.

As for going to 6th st Friday - well, that's another matter.

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

I wish I still had my bike. I'm probably still going to park a good distance away and walk down. (Assuming I go there on Friday).

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

Haha --- I didn't think the parking thing was going to be such an issue, I mean I don't even know the area I'm going to, I just picked it because it's supposed to be a really good place to hang. If any of you would venture to suggest another place to meet up, I would be more than happy to drive in somewhere else. Just let me know!

Re: TX LAN Party -- Update/Roster

If you all want to avoid the alcohol, theres the arboretum up north. We could hit up the Amy's up there and hang out by the fountain. I'll think of some other areas later.
