Re: Favorite Movie, Song, Food, Sport, and more!
Everyone here is entitled to their own opinions. Right now, I can't drink beer says the state, so i'm stuck with soft drinks. Others might stay away from certian things. For instance, I will put myself out there, I don't like scary movies. I just don't get the point of freaking yourself out so you stay up all night thinking that there is a guy going to kill you or something. Same with roller coasters, why toss your perfectly good cookies and pay money to do it?

Re: Favorite Movie, Song, Food, Sport, and more!
Alright, it's time to dust this thread off and give it new life.
MOVIES THAT I COULDN'T SHAKE FROM MY MIND LONG AFTER LEAVING THE THEATER: 1) STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (George Lucas 1977...my age 03) This movie shaped my imagination like no other. My notion of physics in space will be forever horribly misguided thanks to this film. 2) GLORY (Edwark Zwick 1989...my age 15) This film had the "michael moore" effect of instilling a realization that not all is as it appears. I began to eye all the recordings of history with skepticism after this film. 3) THE PIANO (Jane Campion, 1993...my age 19) Artists use painting, music, film, etc. to express themselves...but this was a film about someone who refused to communicate any other way but through her music. Combine that with a girl sitting in front of me with Patchouli on thick and the Michael Nyman film score and I had a winner... 4) THE THIN RED LINE (Terrence Malick, 1998...my age 24) A lot of people went into this film expecting Saving Private Ryan, part 2 but it was on an entirely different level. It combines a stream-of-consciousness narrative, the natural war of everything that is living competing for resources, that nature will always win, and that the beauty of nature will shine through the ugliest of man's attrocities. Throw into the middle of that some character studies (the brute: Nick Nolte; the pragmatist: Sean Penn; the mother hen, Elias Koteas; the lover, Ben Chaplin; the naive, Dash Mihok; the optimist, Jim Caviezel) and you have one of the five best films of all time... 5) Donnie Darko (Richard Kelly, 2001...my age 27) I'm not going to explain this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it. It has time travel, Halloween, tangent universes, and the 1980's all rolled up into one impressive package. There are parts of this I'm still rubbing my chin over... Alright, so the last film to floor me was five years ago...now, I thouroughly enjoyed the KILL BILLS, and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, but I didn't exactly sit there after the credits stopped rolling. LET'S GO MAKE SOME WORTHWHILE FILMS, PEOPLE!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Favorite Band: 1980's: The Smiths, 1990's: Stereolab, 2000's: *undecided* Favorite Food: Gnocchi with creamy pesto sauce Favorite Beer: I'll drink anything, but I usually keep a combination of Grolsch, Guinness, Franziskaner (either dark or light), Corona, and Budweiser Select in the garage refrigerator for whatever mood I'm in. Can't get Jever around here and I'm sad about that, but Grolsch sort of satisfies that craving. Alright, anyone still reading this is anxiously awaiting the end to this post, and here it is!! |

Re: Favorite Movie, Song, Food, Sport, and more!
Movie: Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. It's stoner comedy, but on a higher (lower?) level.
Music: Changes pretty much every week, but I stick to diet of rock (alterna and indie, with a touch of punk. I have a restraining order out on any stuff by Linkin Park - it's not allowed within 2km of my house. At the moment I'm listening to stuff by Gyroscope, The Living End and The Bravery. TV: The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Food: Pretty varied - no one favourite. Sport to watch: Pretty much everything 'cept cricket. Sport to play: I play basketball and soccer, but the best thing that's ever happened to me was getting my hands on my bmx bike and hitting a skatepark. Teams: Sydney FC for soccer PC Game: Was BF2, then EVE Online, now it's Falcon AF. Soft Drink: Don't drink any. Alcohol: Whatever I get my hands on....wait, did I just type that..

Re: Favorite Movie, Song, Food, Sport, and more!
Pesto! I got some California Estate olive oil for xmas which is nice because it's very young, unlike the typical imports in the grocery store that have lost all their flavor. It's great to drizzle over pesto. Gives it a piquancy plus has notes of banana and artichoke.
I like pesto over radiatore (radiator-shaped pasta) because it holds sauce so well, but right now I'm having it over small cheese ravioli. Angel hair is ok. Home-made is ok, but I'm happy with the store-bought stuff in the tub, either Contadina or Armanino. Usually I mix them. And toss in some pine nuts that have been in the toaster oven for a couple minutes. Then fresh-grated asiago cheese over the top.

Re: Favorite Movie, Song, Food, Sport, and more!
All of these are of the "if you held a gun to my head and forced me to pick one" variety. Too many good choices to pick just one but these are close enough for me.
Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark Song: The Weight Music: Any and all Band: Steely Dan Book: Love In The Time of Cholera TV: Curb Your Enthusiasm Food: Anything at La Cote Basque in NYC. Sport: UNC basketball Computer Game: Brothers In Arms, BF2, Civ4 |
