I don't think alot of online play is social at all. I find it rather anti-social. I actually think that is the draw for many of the people playing online. They can be rude, crude, vulgar or totaly oblivious to the others around them. It is hard to do that at the check out line. You can pretend not to notice the stinky guy behind you, but you do notice him and react if only internally.
I think "social" has different conotations. For some social means creating and maintaining relationships, both good and bad. For others, like me, it means taking advantage of the increased cohesion which happens among like minded people trying to achieve a common goal. I wouldn't call these relationships in the traditional sense. (But I guess they really are.) |

No AI will duplicate the human mind exactly. Thus it is more thrilling to try and outhink another human rather than a bot. Trying to teamwork with a bot is kinda lacking as well.
