you have to test results and speeds (theres a results page which shows peoples reports on which was faster for them)

im currently using YAOSCW-W-r7.zip for my A64 rig and boinc 524 sse2, although i think the boinc version might be a tad unstable so might just revert to the MMX version (SSE compiliers are totaly Intel tweaked, and HURT AMD's SSE2)

just read the original reply, but my 2 cents is that this has been out for a long long time, my Dad has been running it on his computer for at least 4 years now, its possible that the "newness" has just worn off for most people.

TacticalGamer has had a SETI team for about the same amount of time...

I don't know that "newness" has anything to do with it, really. It's all about putting your spare CPU cycles to work instead of letting them waste time on that great "Windows Idle Process"...

    Re: A SETI reminder

I'm setting it up on a Dual-Xeon server that is pretty much idle.. this could be interesting.
    - I did this years ago..

edit: Looks like it's having a little trouble.. a lot of 'failed to connect' messages.. but some are successful.

oh, the program my Dad runs only turns on when his screensaver runs and his computer sleeps. If you take the screensaver off, the program is inactive.

thats a really slow way of doing seti, because the screensaver creates more work for the CPU by having lovely graphics......

I did around 10000 units in 4 years, then I moved to command line and did 2 years on seti classic setup with cmd line and doubled my score 22500 i got i think

Now boinc its also setup with blankscreen screensaver. Been a member for 7 years and cant see me stopping totaly. Im thinking of moving one pc to climate prediction but ive always preferd seti.

i think seti was going through some "easy" units..

i remember in seti classic they had a figure called AU (i think) which a average unit was 0.420, and took say 1h30 to do. However 0.200 units took 3hours to do, and 11.000 units took 50mins to compleat etc

I wonder if we went through some high numberd units?

    anyway bump

    Re: A SETI reminder

just a reminder... to anyone using optimised clients, you need new versions because seti and boinc are running much more calculations now and the optimised clients dont get updated so cant run the WU's Seti sends u anymore....
