    flammable: will burn
    inflammable: synonym for flammable
    nonflammable: doesn't burn

Also, I used to think volatile was another term for flammable because I saw the two together on trucks. (I live near several oil refineries.) But volatile means that something vaporizes (changes to a gas) easily.

I would like to point out that Firefox 2.0.0.1 has a built in spell check. It works quite well.

Thanks for this! As a science teacher, this one has tripped me up before. Now I have to clarify to the kiddos....

It's: it is [It's awesome to be a grammar Nazi!] How I do it: read the sentence again with 'it is' in its place if you want to use an apostrophe. If it doesn't make sense, change it.

    Common errors in English: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/errors.html

This is a great site for stuff like this. An example:
Whether you are bailing out a rowboat or a bank, use the two-word spelling to describe the action of doing it (the verb form): “we need to bail out the boat before we can go fishing.”

But to label the activity itself (the noun form), use the one-word spelling: “this bailout is going to be expensive.”

Extreme language warning. NSFW, even though so many writing in a business environment should be introduced to this.

From the Oatmeal, 10 words you need to stop misspelling. (Language warning.)
