Hmm, looks like shiny gfx has its limitations. What are we going to call BF2 or JO if 24-players is "large scale" ?

^^^^That is odd. I recall it being 32 players being the optimal with support for higher player count.

Re: Anyone checked out previews of "Quake Wars"

I think what they said (it was in an interview somewhere) that the maps would be designed for between 24-32 players because that's what the devlopers consider 'the sweet spot' for good game play. They also mentioned that some servers might run with up to 64 (I don't know if it can go higher though). I don't think it's that the game can't support more players while maintaining playability (though it is possible), I think it's that the devolpers feel that the game is more fun with less players.

I posted a bunch of screenshots over at http://www.tacticalnews.com.

There's a preorder link over there as well (if you click on the game logo at the top of the article): http://www.tacticalnews.com/node/71

Will this game really feature different facial expressions at different times? I would literally bust a gut laughing if my squad member's jaw suddenly dropped in fear...

I wondered that myself. In most FPS's the characters have the same emotionless expresion all the time. That would certainly be cool if enemys actaully looked scared before and I run up and stab them with the big spikes sticking out of my arm.

Lol, that can be aranged. We don't even need Quake Wars for that, we can do it BF2.

I really hope I'll actually be able to stab people while playing as the Strog like in the trailer. I love melee combat in FPS's
