Actually, it's far more expensive to shoot planetside. Between location, sets, and extras you're really hitting the accountants hard. Having a controlled, dedicated soundstage is much more cost-effective. In fact, since they still HAVE the BSG soundstage for all the interior and space scenes, and all of that has overhead costs, anything they shoot on location simply adds to the budget on top of that.

The finale really pulled the season together, I thought. I was a little worried about the jump in time, but the transformation of Baltar from ineffective novice politico to hard-nosed mafia robber baron was brilliant. Of course, now they're all screwed again. And it's all his fault. It's always his fault.

Also, props to Dean Stockwell as the pair of atheist Cylon priests. Who else called that?

I did. When I was watching that episode I kept asking myself what kind of a priest would say such things. Then saw him on Caprica and was like, "WTF?"

Then I realized that his attitude made sense. Its unfotrunate though that he's gone (for now anyway) I kind of liked him. He was funny.

And what you said about the overhead costs makes a lot of sense. So, hopefully they go back into space. Which I'm sure they would once they get rid of the incompetant President Blatar cause they need to find Earth.

Yea I always liked Dean Stockwell as an Actor...

I kind of thought he may have been a cylon especially when he told the chief..."maybe I don't think your a cylon because I haven't met you at any of the meetings." LOL!

But then I thought he was playing a hard nose/ rough priest like the "No Bedside" manner of the doctor...

But then you see him on Caprica...CHA-CHING!!!

Was very good episode . I was also worried about the time shift and suddeness of the change of events of 1 year but they pulled it together and left it hanging for the next season...

Possible spinoff, a prequel about the origin of the Cylons:

Stargate everything sucks, except for the original movie.

    BSG is excellent.

Eh, spinoff might be interesting, but it'd be much more interesting just as a mini or a movie, not a full series.

We're already in the middle of 1 cylon war, we don't need 2.

Do you think the Cylons are really gonna help them out plannetside? Will Adamma Sr. screw things up between now-helpful Cylons or discover something completely different?

Dammit, I can't read any more of this thread because you all just got me into this show. I couldn't believe the quality of the pilot, it blew my mind. I mean I really enjoyed DS9 and Voyager, but I didn't know it could get this good. It's really outstanding.

Great bumpage. Such a cool idea. I'm going to wait until they get a few more episodes up so I can get a good long half hour or so fix, but this is just freaking cool.

if you havent seen the second season, dont read below, it's got info you'll wanna see in the episodes.

    ---------------------------------------------

so heres my deal. i come from a military background. both of my parents are retired naval officers. my dad was a pilot for 13 years, then in inteligence/counterintelligence for the next 9, then retired and worked for the CIA for almost 10 years. my mom was an admin officer and worked on schwarzkopf's staff in desert storm I. I was in naval ROTC for 3 years until I blew out my knee and couldnt afford the surgery to correct it, so I lost my scholarship. I've got a good deal of military background and things like logistics, intelligence and strategy were always topics of discussion at my house. From a purely militaristic standpoint, the planning here is in a bungle.
So Galactica and the rest of the fleet escaped the cylon fleet that jumped in on top of them and left the people planetside. Ok, any field commander would have done the same thing. However, with depleted manpower, why in the world are they planning on making immediate rescue attempts? I know that the people planetside think theyre never coming back, but having seen both sides of the coin, we know they are.
So the question begs, what should they really be doing?
Well, lets see...they have the starmap to find earth. The cylons know theyre looking for earth and since they have the majority of the humans on new caprica, theyre not interested in chasing the fleet since its not an operational threat. Well, the cylons supposedly pose as big of a threat to earth as anyone else, so the smart money might be to venture to earth, restore manpower, resupply with the advanced technology that the caprica humans have using earth's resources, and go back in force and mop the floor with the cylons. Of course construction and training time would have to be factored in, so it might take 20 or so years and we might lose a main character or two in the process, but saving the fact that the cylons are going to make some huge mistake, some miracle new weapon or advantage over the cylons is found, or the human/cylon baby is like neo and can bring em to their knees singlehandedly, its the only realisitic way for the humans to beat the cylons.
And as far as help from earth, think about it...a fleet of spaceships ferrying wartorn humans from another part of the galaxy suddenly appears tomorrow and lets the entirety of earth know that theres a race of robots that look like people on their way to destroy all human life and reinforcements and help from earth are the only way to possibly stop them, you think they'd be turned away? Maybe the politicians would be up in armas about it, but your average joe would be waiting to sign up. The prospect of figting "aliens", the prospect of space travel, seeing the universe, flying a space fighter? Are you kidding? Everyone in the TG community would be on the list, not to mention 90% of the gamers on earth, as well as most of the people in various military forces worldwide. Every marine i know would want to go kill some toasters, and i know a lot. So we're talking at least a volunteer section of 200-300 thousand, if not into the millions. Galactica and the rest of the fleet would have all the manpower they ever needed and more.
So you gotta wonder why they dont do it....hmmm.
    Just my two cents.
