Re: Whats your Favorite FPS?
Gosh.. this is a tough call.... hmm.
I would say off the top of my head, for "next gen" (read: fully 3d realized, not sprite) I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I... acquired it under less than legal circumstances through school, played the hell out of it, even though my system was utter crap (onboard i810 chip videosystem, 566mhz celeron 2) and then when i couldn't log onto multiplayer servers anymore due to the patches which would fail to install on mine (happened maybe 4 months in) i went out and bought the game, after having given it a thorough playtesting. Oldschool wise, i have *always* enjoyed the Build engine game Blood. The feeling was much darker and sinister, with a lot more dark humor and fun, imo, than Duke Nukem produced for me. It was also imo much harder and more innovative. Even older than that, i would say, Heretic and it's spawn Hexen were great as well. |

Re: Whats your Favorite FPS?
wow thanks for the help everyone. I'm working with a group on making a FPS/RPG combo, and I really appreciate that you have all taken the time to help us see what people really like. Its one thing for us to think of things, but to make it great we need to see if you have the same feelings. I'll keep you all posted on our progress as we get further.
Keep this going, its fun to read. |

There's some hope we may yet see a proper heir to the genre from hints coming from Garage Games, which inherited much of the engine code from T2: http://matureasskickers.net/wbb2/thr...threadid=11895

Re: Whats your Favorite FPS?
if you're doing a FPS/RPG then deus ex is the model to follow. So much cool stuff to do and the character upgrading/augmenting is super fun. It was cool that the way you chose to upgrade you character had a dramatic effect on how you got through certain parts of the game.

Armed Assault is (i hope) out this summer. I've given up on the FPS scene right now as I think it's very poor. I still play most of the above titles because the mod community is bringing out content for these games. I think Armed Assault will have a big impact here at TG |

I was a big TFC fan until Tribes 2 came out. I dabbled in CS for awhile, but TFC was still my first love. I loved finding creative points to set up sentry guns and exploding supply stations, and I loved going pyro to burn snipers out of their camping spots.

Re: Whats your Favorite FPS?
Yeah. For an FPS/RPG, I would highly reccomend not only Deus Ex, but the System Shock series, the Thief series, the Gothic series, and the GTA series. Not all them are necessarily FPS or RPG, but they touch on the other genre. In particular, Thief is good for actually playing a role, even if there is hardly any RPG element (aka, don't screw up stealth if you include it).
