Re: Reputation System

That's a base system, you could add modifiers to that. let's say your ratio sits at 100% until you give rep to the same person 2 times, then it drops to 75% and on the 3rd time it drops to 50% and the 4th it drops to 25%.
1st and 2nd = 100%
3rd = 75%
4th = 50%
5th = 25%

and to control recieving versus giving, you can only recieve as much as you've given out.

This is all pretty much theory and probably not even possible. :P

Re: Reputation System

Something I don't get: We're all familiar with the "you must spread rep around" message. How can the system be abused to pile up rep on one person when this limiter is in place? Was somebody creating multiple "smurf" accounts to aggregrate rep? (The question is academic: I find the problem of designing systems that defend themselves from "gaming" interesting.)

Re: Reputation System

the problem was that it's like an unstable filter: the more rep you have the more rep you can give... so if you get a group of people +repping eachother (even if all +reps were completely appropriate and well deserved), the collective rep of that group grows exponentially. when Apo stepped in, some were dishing out rep points close to 50 at a time...

so just a single person +repping one quality post was carring more weight than if 40 inidividuals gave you +rep for a bunch of different posts. This invalidated the rep-bubbles because there's no way to tell if that new bubble was a result of 5 +reps or from 200 +reps.

edit: this is why I think we should put the bubbles back and just make it MyRep++ and not MyRep = MyRep + (GiversRep/100) .. or whatever it was...

If you have to spread rep around to 10 people, you pick the 10 people you want to inflate and then round-robin the +rep votes to them regardless of their contributions. If you do this on a daily basis, in a very short period of time their rep will be largely inflated. If a bulk of the 10 people doing this with are also doing the exact same thing with the same group of people, the rep altering power starts increasing rapidly and their +rep votes have a more pronounced effect.

In any case, this topic has run its course. Once all the rep tweaks have been made, an announcement will be posted detailing how it is used.
