Re: The beer thread
If ever a thread needed a sticky this is it.
Add my vote to Shiner Bock. One of the great things about it is I can even find it in the most rual towns in western oklahoma (my growin up place).
Shiner Hefeweizen. This one is pretty good.
St Pauly Girl Dark
Michelob AmberBock is a pretty good store beer.
I also liked some of the rice based beers I had while oversees. Don't remember any of their names. One had a pair of swords crossed and I think it came from Korea. Anybody have any idea what it is called?

Re: The beer thread
My vote for local "top o' the line" in the Minnesota Twin Cities area is Summit Pale Ale.
Newcastle is always good, too, though hardly "local".
I still have fond memories of Guinness...in Ireland...

Re: The beer thread
Right on!
The house beer is Icehouse.
The beers I miss the most
Stingray (Grand Cayman)
Feldschlosschen (Switzerland)
I also prefer:
Hansa
Franziskaner
Guiness and Harp
Bud World Select
And pretty much all other editions, forms, and flovors of this nectar of the gods.

Orion from Okinawa? I never liked it until a local told me that it's best served with ice. Seemed weird to me, but when I tried it, I liked it.

Turbo is speaking my language…Yuengling lager. Made from the crystal clear rivers of Pennsylvania. Mmmmmmm.
College days: Red, White and Blue beer. Sold for about $9.00 a case in Syracuse NY. You basically paid a higher price the next morning.

Re: The beer thread
I just found this thread thanks to Trooper so... sorry I'm throwing in my two cents worth late. We have some great ales on the West Coast. My favorites:
#1 Drop Top by Widmer Bros.; Anderson Valley Winter Solstice; Sierra Nevada Summerfest.
Imports: Negra Modello; Spaten Optimator

Boddington's English Ale - the smoothest beer you will ever drink.
Guinness - black gold

A late entry, but I'm all for Guinness, Bodington's, and a Corona.
I don't know many beers, but the above three are my favourites! As for the Irish Car Bomb...I had never heard of that until this thread...it is now on the list of things to do when the car keys are nowhere in sight.
Cheers!

Re: The beer thread
I tried a nice place in Wilmington NC called 'Old Chicago'. They had 100+ micro brews.
My fav was MASH HOUSE HOPPY HOUR IPA ... oh so bitter and good. Local from Fayetteville NC. If only I can get my hands on the ingredients, I would brew it myself.

Re: The beer thread
Sorry to ressurrect an old thread like this but...
I saw Shiner Bock on sale at the grocery store after work today and decided to pick up a six-pack. This stuff is good! Its not quite as refreshing as a Nimbus Palo Verde Pale Ale when you're sitting around in 110 degree heat but its good and tasty. Thanks for the reccomendation.

It hasn't been that hot there lately, has it? They've been showing the Phoenix weather on the news here because of the NBA playoffs, and I was surprised to see that it was almost ten degrees cooler there on Tuesday!

Re: The beer thread
Its had been fairly cool until the past few days. Yesterday it topped out at 108 (felt like 100 million) and we're supposed to be "unseasonably warm" until Sunday. The words "Unseasonably Warm" in June are enough to make any resident of the Phoenix metro area cry like 3 year old girls who just found out that Santa Clause is really a hameless alcoholic who the mall gives a job for two months out of the year.
P.S. GO SUNS!!!!!

Heh... I'd rather be outside in 116 degree Phoenix heat than the nasty, humid 90 degree heat here in Dallas.
And I'm afraid that the Mavs are going to disappoint you. Not that I'm a big basketball fan, but...

Would it be poor sportsmanship to give you negative rep for this comment?

Okay...I just got back from a bachelor party / weekend in Vegas. I introduced myself and the lads to the Irish Car Bomb...a first for all of us.
All I can say is +rep to Beatnik. I will say no more...as you all know what goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Slainte,
