Slainte,
It's good to see ICBs still being discovered. May god have mercy on your souls.

I got a chance to try out a local beer garden last night for $2.75 pints. After hitting the usual suspects of Hoegaarden, Boddingtons, and the Paulaner, we ended up drinking Young's Double Chocolate Stout most of the night (thanks for the recommendation, Turbo). Chocolate. Beer. I'd resisted trying this beer for a long time, but it was actually very very good. I'd say it's a 'must try' for chocolate lovers. And stout lovers.

Re: The beer thread

If you are up in the Northeast area down to Philadelphia I would recommend John Harvard's. My favorite is the Summer Blonde. Good food with good beer and good friends can never be beat.

Above all beer I would rather drink hard cider as I am a proud owner of an incredible sweet tooth. But when in the mood for a cold, tall friendly, I prefer to reach for the following:

Labatt Blue
Yuengling Lager Light - Can't stand Yuengling Lager but enjoy the light a lot.
Sam Adam's Summer Pale Ale
Amstel Light

Nothing fancy but these are certainly a step up and broke the monotony from the usual Pabst Blue Ribbon during college.

As for ICB's there might not be a more fun yet lethal drink in the history of drinks and they are impossible to refuse.

Re: The beer thread

OK, I usually don't recommend beer from the big American swill breweries, but I had a Michelob AmberBock the other day at the Padres game and it wasn't bad. If you're stuck somewhere that has only cheap beer, give Michelob another shot.

For anyone that really wants a strong flavorful and exotic beer i suggest you drink any of the above. They can run a lil pricy, $6-12/ Bottle, @ a usual 1L bottle. But they are trully the best. Another good beer that I have yet to find in America is the Original Budwieser, made in the Czech Republic.
Thats my two cents, and a few from Mateo too.

I believe that's Czechvar/Budvar. Good beer. Much better than Budweiser.

Re: The beer thread

I think Guinness Draught out of the 12oz bottle with the widget in it is okay, but it's best out of a tap.

Red Stripe Lager is pretty decent, beats the hell out of American water beers.

And Becks is always a favorite, high quality import you can get anywhere in the world.

Re: The beer thread

I currently live in Prescott, AZ (where I go to college), and we have a local microbrewery/pub that serves up some DARN fine beer: Prescott Brewing Company. I have to say that I LOVE their beers:

Prescott Pale Ale
Pinetar Stout
Octoberfest (Octoberfest beer they brew during the season, an amber that is absolutely fabulous)
Liquid Amber

As far as non-PBC beers go, I like, mainly:

Black Butte
Guiness
Newcastle
Sam Adams Pale Ale
Sam Adams Summer Ale
Oak Creek Brewery's Nut Brown Ale

I like my ambers and my darks, and some reds. I started out being a lights-only guy, but my tastes refined and thus I love most GOOD QUALITY beers (michelob, budweiser, miller, etc. NOT in this category). THe low quality cheap beers can go where it belongs: the place where another watery, yellow, nasty liquid goes.....in the toilet.

I spent 10 days in Germany and Austria quite some time ago and on that trip I had becks from the tap in Germany--totally different product than what we get here in the states...Becks is good but Becks fresh from the factory is outstanding. That said--Beck's on tap there was like Bud on tap here...widespread...I drank many brews there I'm sure I'll never see again.
