I was sitting in the cigar shop here in Lake worth, and the guys were talking about that. They've got like 129 different beers or something..crazy.

Btw, if you like to sit and smoke cigars..

War.Monger I may just take you up on that offer. I will be traveling to SA so I may visit my sister at St. Mary's once I finish buttoning up my Mustang.
As for cigars I had never tried any until I started drinking Scotch. The one brand I have tried is Romeo Y Julieta.

What a coincidence. I'm going back to SA this afternoon myself. Good thing there's a Flying Saucer in both locations. I believe the one in SA is better, though. Just my opinion tho. I think they have like twice as many beers.

    Re: The beer thread

Thought I would bring this thread back from the dead.

The Landshark is very similar in flavor to Modelo to me.

These are some I have recently picked up to try out.

This at the time full six pack was a gift from my cousin. She knew I had been looking for this for almost two weeks.

I still have not really had the time to "really" taste the Shiner Bohemian Black Lager.
But it's not going to be made for long since it's an anniversary edition from Shiner.
I figured if I like it and can't find more later on. I will kick myself for not purchasing it when i had a chance.

Has anyone tried the 1554 from New Belgium Brewery?

    Here goes!

    Unibroue La Fin Du Monde

9% Belgian abbey-style ale. My favorite beer of them all. Oooooh, how I cherish the beginning of the week-ends!

    Boréale Rousse

Good amber ale that has both a good taste and price. A solid session beer.

    Maredsous 10

An incredibly smooth Belgian abbey-style 10% ale. Goes down like honey, and you find yourself tipsy before you even know what hit you.

    Maredsous 8

8% Belgian-style double brown ale. Has a very, very well-defined and crisp taste that always makes me come back for more.

    L'alchimiste: L'écossaise

5% scotch-style ale. A smooth and very, shall we say, heartwarming kind of ale. I guess it's my comfort food in the world of beers.

    Abita Amber

I found this one at Copeland's in Atlanta after they told me they were out of Stella Artois. Boy am I glad to have met this beer! Deeply refreshing and tasty. Shame I can't find it anywhere in Quebec.

    Les Brasseurs RJ: Blonde D'Achouffe

8% Belgian-style ale with a strong, aggressive taste. Kicks you in the mouth and leaves you reeling for several minutes.

    Re: The beer thread

For any of you folks in the US west of the mississippi, I highly recommend picking up anything from the New Belgium Brewery. Fat Tire is one of my favorite beers on earth, and for the wintery months, 2° Below is their seasonal brew and it's absolutely excellent. Both belgian style ales, they're nice and hearty, with a very robust taste.

On a side note, one of my buddies just started homebrewing beer and he made a maple nutmeg brown ale. 13.5% alcohol content, but you can actually taste both the maple syrup and the nutmeg they used. It's absolutely fantastic, especially when you're trying to both enjoy good beer and get smashed.

Fat Tire is pretty good. I also like the Blue Paddle Pilsener they make.
Next on the list is 1558 which I saw at the store.
But I still have way too much beer from my last trip to the store.

I had maple homebrew many years ago. The first batch wayyy to sweet and syrupy tasting. Took the guy about 8 batches before he nailed it but it was good. I bet some nutmeg rounds it out nicely.

Ah, I used to have the brewery not more than three miles from my house You could go in there, lay down $5, and get a beer sampler of about 8 half-pints.

Not all their stuff was that great, mind you.

Wow. An Air Force pilot friend just brought me some of that from NY last night and I had one. And it is good!

    Re: The beer thread

I guess there are a few of us here. I too am a Beer Snob (BS). I have done beer and ale tours in Belgium and Germany and attend at least one beer tasting a month.

Some of my absolute favs from around the world are:

    Kostritzer: A Black Lager--Very Smooooth---Bad Kostritz Germany
Any Delerium---All of the Delerium products are fantastic---Belgium
Ein Becker---Several Varieties I like the 'Swartz Beir' (Black Beer) Germany
Phantome Brewerie----Belgium Phantastic! All of his stuff is good! (One Man Brews it all)
Chimay Red: Trappist Monks of Scoumont Belgium Yumm
Pilsner Urquell: The worlds first and some would say only true Pilsner, Pilsen Chzech Rep.
    Any Franziskaner--Germany
    Any Hacker Pschorr--Germany
    Any Spaten--Germany
O'Hara's Stout---Ireland like a really really good Guinness, but better.
Thomas Hardy's---England, Ok, just kidding, this beer sucks! never try it (Don't say I didn't warn you!)
    McEwans--Scotch Ale--Firey taste and a nice finish.

    American Stuff:

Summit Hefe--St. Paul, MN. German Brewmaster FTW! A true Hefe from America!
Any Product from Central Waters Brewery in Wisconsin---Everything they make is magical. Limited batch sizes makes the stuff hard to come by, but well worth it.

My house is stocked to the gills with beer, but I don't drink alone. Only tap into my stock when company arrives.

    Loraxe

Oh, If you guys find yourselves in the La Crosse area, we are blessed with the Bodega Brew Pub downtown and it stocks over 400 beers. There are no 'Macro Brews', Just imports and micros. It is well worth the trip!
