Re: All Time Favorite Game
I can't respond to this post in any sane way. So many games have impressed me, and I've missed so many others entirely. I'll just mention a short list as others have done.
Ultima 4 - great story, fun and challenging - first game to really consume my interest - liked it so much that I replayed it end to end about 5 years back
Zelda series - I can't name one of these, I love them all so much - I am currently replaying Link To The Past (Zelda 3) on a SNES emulator and my kids think it's the best thing on TV.
Doom - so many things to so many people - coop with my buddy over dial-up, seemingly always degenerating into shooting each other in the back at some point, and laughing and laughing
Subspace (Continuum) - this game was an absolutely awesome massively multiplayer experience that kept me occupied for years - it featured squad-based competition, and strategies and teamwork never before seen - Virgin Interactive Entertainment collapsed as a company around the time that this was being prepped for release and as a result it hit the shelves with a whisper
Warcraft II - you know
Battlefield 1942 / BF2 - you knowPeace through fear... since 1947!

Re: All Time Favorite Game
For console, final fantasy 3 (American 3...it was something else in Japan).
For PC, MOHAA was my first multiplayer game so that takes the cake. I think i played every expansion up until the recent Pacific one, which blew.

Re: All Time Favorite Game
Oh hell yes......Cyberball has to be my all-time favorite arcade game. Four player goodness.....
Very similar to you, it had to be multiplayer/online, or else I wasn't interested. I didn't have the desire/time/inclination to stick with any single player game. I've yet to complete even 10% of the original half-life game....as I only bought it at the time because my security forces co-workers were ranting about Counter-Strike (beta 3) -- way before Steam sunk it's teeth into it......
I never played #2.....how was it compared to the original?

Re: All Time Favorite Game
There is really isn't much of a difference between the two.
-The sound in #2 is better, especially on the fly balls where the sound never reaches that really high pitch.
-The music seems to be less annoying in #1 however
-10 teams to start out with in #2 compared to 8 in #1
-In create-a-team after you choose the style of team you want (same seven choices as in #1) you only have 5 teams too choose from and you dont get to pick your uniform.
-Team management is the same. Winning games means making money. Making money means new and/or improved players.
-You can play in 4 different stadiums (City, Dome, Country, and Romstar). There isnt any difference other than the color of the field.
-The menus are a lot cleaner and less cluttered as they went with a smaller font size.
-graphically only the hitters have changed. They still have the same couple of stances but just look a bit sharper. Defenders still look the same as do the umpire and his crew.
-Gameplay is the same. You can still dive, jump and climb the outfield fence. The ball in the original seems to be a little be faster, but I also just started a new team (built around defense) in #2 so I might just be used to my teams crappy hitting. The outfield in the original seems bit smaller at least in the Left and Right center gaps.
Overall, Baseball Stars 2 seems a bit more polished but other than the shiny new coat there really isnt any difference between the two games.

HELL YES. I loved the Road Rash series - used to play it on Sega Channel all the time. Classic stuff, nothing better than putting some good tunes on my stereo and kicking dirtbags off their bikes.
Speaking of EA Genesis classics, anyone remember General Chaos? Pretty nifty squad based shooter, I could see it fitting in at TG

Re: All Time Favorite Game
Winner:
BF2... because of this game I found TG and all future games are better because of that. It is a great game to play, teamplay elements are supported in-game, has modification support and is playable for short play sessions.
Runner Up:
Ghost Recon
Nominated:
Bf42
Operation Flashpoint
X-Com
Civilization 1
Starcraft|TG-12th| SHINER

Re: All Time Favorite Game
Holy crap, let's see here. I can't choose just one:
Old school - Zelda (NES), Pro-Wresling (NES), Dodge Ball (NES), Gradius (SMS), Shadowrun (NES), Ghengis Khan (NES), Bionic Commando (NES).
Current - BF2/2142, Madden series, City of Heroes/Villians.
