Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
You're no fun, Cing. Surely you'd at least consider calling them exterminations?

Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
Rhetoric rarely solves problems. That is changing the saying is not going to put a new meaning to it. People know it as kills because that is what you are doing in the game. You are "killing" an opponent to attempt victory at the game.
I think its a little ridiculous to change the name. Its not going to do anything.

Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
I like using the word fragged, but usually the only person that gets 'temporarily removed from gameplay' when I'm involved is me, and I say I get killed.

Giving me negative rep for saying that leet speak is immature is just more evidence of immaturity. I'm quite disappointed in that...

Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
I usually use killed 'em or got 'em, unless the map is inf. only Karkand, then it's fragged or 'naded, because it seems like thats the only weapon people use for about the first 10 minutes of a round

Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
so the origin of the word is actually military slang, and as wyz pointed out, derives from death by an explosive device (i.e. FRAGmentation grenade). So using the term "frag" as a detachment from reality is a little off the mark since it's far more based in reality than one might think.Code:Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1) - Cite This Source frag /fræg/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[frag] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation verb, fragged, frag‧ging, noun U.S. Army and Marine Corps Slang. –verb (used with object) 1. to kill, wound, or assault (esp. an unpopular or overzealous superior) with a fragmentation grenade. –noun 2. fragmentation grenade. [Origin: 1965–70, American; by shortening]
Also, since we're bringing this point up, why exactly would someone who is in control of their mental faculties need a specific phraseology, or any other method for that matter, to "detach games from reality"? One would think that any rational person would understand the difference to begin with, seeing as we dont respawn in real life, as well as a myriad of other inherent differences.

Re: Lingo: "Frag" instead of "Kill"
Wulfyn, don't forget Rise of the Triad. I don't exactly remember if it said anything about frags, but I do specifically remember when you blew up a lot of enemies at one time (or did things like cause moving traps to go through them) the game would respond with a little tune and the words LUDICROUS GIBS!! on the screen.
Man, that game was so violent. People that talk about violence in games now probably never even remember that game, where blowing someone up close to you would fling at the screen (it was a particle effect like special effect) hands/fingers/pieces of face with eye looking at you/eyes/brains into you, you had infinite ammo for your regular guns, and the things that did damage were bazookas/MIRV missiles/flame-wall rockets, etc.
Imo the best part was when you either enabled god mode or found the powerup and thats exactly what it did. You grew like 2x, were invincible, and you had the hand of God weapon which you fired palms outstretched, homed, and went through enemies and sent them packing.

Im not changing the way I talk for anyone except those I respect. Even then theres a limit.
I try not to curse on the servers here since sometimes there are children listening. But I will not stoop to using euphemisms, they soften our language and portray reality as less vivid.
