Re: Doom 3 review
Many sites and forums have ripped the PC Gamer review and rightly been told to take it down. Trusty old google has cached some of these pages though so you can still find it if you try hard. The review I found contained loads of typos although a good quality of writing which suggests that it was transposed by hand.
I am considering upgrading in order to play this game. I think my GF 4 Ti 4200 will be up to the job but I will need a new board, processor and memory.Wintermute

Some Hardware info over at [H]ardOCP can be found here. Some good info on card comparison and what to expect from your hardware in Doom3.
Also a good place to see a few extra screen shots of the game

Re: Doom 3 review
bump
Just got the game off usenet and find it to be beautiful other than the fact my P1.7/768meg/Ti500 @ 1024X768 cannot run it properly. The graphics, shadows, etc. are unlike anything we've seen before and although it takes a while to navigate through the first level the shooting begins quickly with the pistol, then the shotgun, then the pulse rifle, etc. The layout and look of the maps has the Doom2 look but the improvements are nothing short of stunning, needless to say. Any fan of DOOM2 will be loving this game. I have only played a bit on Recruit and find the enemies to be quite stupid but I'm sure on more difficult levels they would be brutal. The way hits register on enemies is very area-specific and there is no forgiveness for misplaced shots. The mood of the game and placement of the AI had me jumping a couple of times. My gamma needs a definite adjustment as the game is dark, dark, dark. This is a must purchase for any gamer into FPSs and certainly any fan of the DOOM games in general. As well, like myself I surmise, it will be necessary for many to upgrade their PCs to be able to play this bad boy and other noteworthy titles upcoming (HL2). I think its out tomorrow or something so go get it and have at 'er. My only regret is it will be a while before I can see it running at over 8 or 10 fps and in all it's graphical glory.
Nevertheless, here are a few screenies for you to drool over until you get the disks in your sweaty little palms. Cheers!

Will the little thieves ever give up?
If I were a game company I'd purposefully leak a version of the game on usenet and torrent that screwed up people's machines.

Re: Doom 3 review
pros:
great ambience/atmosphere/mood
some great gameplay mechanics
some good level design choices
great graphics: lighting + shadows FOR THE WIN
classicly simple control scheme
the art style's ok. not terribly original or awesome, but the highly detailed quality of the game makes up for it.
cons:
AI should be called "Random with high chance of Stupid"
levels feel like rehashed versions of older games
scripted events are highly predictable, especially if you've played half-life SP
speaking of half-life SP, it has the EXACT same plot. EXACTLY the same plot.
graphics are still buggy
multiplayer right now is an afterthought
in summary: when playing this game i crapped my pants.a great single player experience, if completely unoriginal and uninspired.
