Doom 3 Tweaks
I did not come up with these, I've compiled them from several different forums:
CTRL+ALT+~ <== to get the console
com_showfps 1
com_showmemoryusage 1
r_brightness 1.x
r_gamma 1.x
pm_runbob 0 <== defaults to 0.4
pm_walkbob 0 <== defaults to 0.3
pm_crouchbob 0 <== defaults to 0.5
vid_restart <== restarts video without restarting game
In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.
The following edits will help improve texture cacheing in SP mode. Helps smooth out the visuals.
seta image_useCache "1" <== defaults to "0"
seta image_cacheMegs "256" <== should be half your ram, default to 20
seta image_cacheMinK "25600"
Flashlight is _impulse 11 - I bound to MOUSE2
To get to the editor CTRL+ALT+~ and type "editor" (without the quotes)

Re: Doom 3 Tweaks
For those running dual monitors, you might be interested in this article . It describes how to change your vid settings in the event your dual monitor setup causes video lag.
The thing would run OK in some places, but in others, it was literally a slideshow and wholly unplayable. After lots of checking settings, updating chipset drivers, and futzing about, I figured out that the problem was this: I have two monitors on my system. Turning off the output for second monitor (by unchecking "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor) immediately fixed the problem.
Several readers have also suggested a more elegant fix where you don't have to turn off your second monitor. You can go to the "Advanced" config menu for the NVIDIA driver, go to the "Performance" section, and check the "Show advanced settings" box. Scroll down to "Hardware acceleration" and pick "Single display mode." That should do the trick. If you get an all-white screen (or any single-color screen) when you start up DOOM 3, though, you have more work to do. Kill DOOM 3 in the Task Manager. Then switch the monitor inputs. The monitor showing DOOM 3 must be both the "primary monitor" in Windows and "monitor 1" on the graphics card.

12:30, shower time. Around 1 am, lights off, headset on full blast, DOOM TIME. The atmosphere in this game is great.

I love gaming, mmmmmmmm

Re: Doom 3 Tweaks
The tweak helped out a bit. It doesn't seem to drop FPS when I get in firefights and I managed to crank 2xAA.
Oh boy, I encountered one of those pink monsters yesterday. I barely survived. It was nerve racking to see the door get dented as it tried to get in the room. Then it decided to just jump through the big window. I didn't see that coming until it was too late. Before I went into the room, I knew something bad was going to happen. It's like the feeling you get while watching a horror movie except you're the unlucky fellow instead of the viewer.

Re: Doom 3 Tweaks
I read that it's good to turn AA off in Doom3. Due to the darkness of the background, turning AA off will give you better performance w/o decreasing your visual experience.

Re: Doom 3 Tweaks
I am definitely one gamer that demands AA. However, I did play one level without it and it's not that bad. With the dark lighting and the way the levels are built the jagged edges are hardly noticeable. So far, performance seems ok over two levels with AA on.
One thing I'm disappointed about is the sound setup. I don't have 5.1 sound and Doom 3 doesn't support my 4.1 setup. I'm reduced to stereo sound when I know the experience would be much better with some sort of positional sound.

Re: Doom 3 Tweaks
Yeah didn't I tell you guys this game was sweet but noooooo... I'm ordering a new PC this weekend because of this frickin' fancy-boy sweet game because, well, its DOOM. The only things that will top this are GR2 and HL2 (if that ever comes out).
