I actually remember playing the Oregon Trail in the fourth grade, all thanks to the Macintosh Classic II.

I distinctly remember a slinky craze in 3rd and 4th grade. Good times.
This decade's odd craze would have to be hacky sack, about 1-2 years ago.

The definitive 80's craze was Rubik's Cube. That was more than just a fad for kids, it was everywhere. I remember when almost every kid in school had one.
Oh and btw, I am a "hacky sack" (footbag) nut. I used to be so into it that I played with some of the top players in the world. I played with them, I didn't play at their level by any stretch.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Remember at Toys R Us, when you had to take that yellow slip for a game to the cashier, and then to the man behind the game booth near the exit. He was like Santa, but in a cage.
