Heh... I've read studies that said that dark text on light backgrounds caused the least amount of eyestrain...
But, I would like to also vote for another color scheme. We're back to having a very low contrast and this just hurts my eyes. It would be really nice to have a couple of different color schemes that people could choose from...Become a supporting member!

Re: New Look
Is there a resource one can use to educate himself on skinning these forums? Why not let the community members create and publish CSS stylesheets ("templates", etc, whatever works) and let users use what they like? A nerd like me might enjoy cranking something like that out.

I feel dumb for ever asking if it was possible.

Surely something like this is possible for us, and I don't see why the community couldn't maintain skins for the rest of the community to choose from. We make maps, and videos, and mods for games. I don't see why we can't make cosmetic forum "mods", too.Steam Community? Re: New Look
I really like the old color scheme. It the earthy hues felt very appropriate for most of the games we play. I don't dislike the colors now being used, but there is no longer that relationship between the colors of the forums and the colors in-game.
Regardless, I can 100% understand the need to standardize. There is no reason for APO to spend the time he has in just keeping the templates working on the website.|TG-12th| SHINER

Re: New Look
I'm not opposed to switching up some of the colors a bit, that's relatively easy. As long as the modifications I'm making are to the CSS values in the database (There is no static css file, it's generated dynamically, along with everything else, from the database) it won't be too bad to update come patch time.
I know some people don't like it, but very few that don't like it have actually defined what they dislike about it or made suggestions for improvement. But most of these people also still have time to play games once in a while. Hell, I hadn't even finished with the template changes from vBulletin 3.6.1 when 3.6.2 came out. I was given the choice to just start all over again on the changes, or finally move to something that required a lot less time.

Re: New Look
When I first noticed the change I had to double check the URL. At first I didn't care for the colors, now I have to admit that I really like them.

Re: New Look
I like the solution of users having some sort of remedy for implementing their own improvements, even if it's "go to this forum to talk to the guys we've put in charge of home-grown styles/templates".
If there's file access/permissions, or some other security/integration/don't-try-this-at-home bottleneck, can we give a designated group (the members of which are somehow established as qualified) some access to crank out templates and styles for this forum?
We've got 1000+ regulars here. What reason is there besides i'm-the-only-guy-they-gave-access-to (that can be remedied, surely) for everyone relying on one guy for this?
How hawt would it be if we each had plenty of options for how our now-standardized forum appeared, each of us choosing our individual preference?Steam Community? Re: New Look
You could hop on by the phpBB webpage and take a look at the info that's there. We run some heavily modified php forums at work (not just a chat tool, it handles our employee scheduling, info databse and more), and I was in charge of skinning it. It's pretty easy, and for the most part only entails modifying some hex color values in the admin panel and saving it as a style. After that, you can either force that style or allows users to choose their own. I'm not a developer (I know html/css but can't speak PHP or anything), and I figured it out pretty fast. Just gotta make sure to keep a backup of the default style in case you make a boo-boo. :P
Apophis: Check my previous post for what bothered me about the color scheme. I use past tense here because I have a question: did you tweak the background color between when I posted last night and now? Seems like you darkened it up some. Either that or my monitor at home (same model as work) is configured completely differently. Or I'm crazy. Looking at it right now feels easier on the eyes, though the text still seems to bleed out a little.

Re: New Look
If people want to try and crank out designs/templates, they only need go purchase a copy of vBulletin, install it, and then work with the template system to come up with a designs. It's a LOT of work during code updates though, and that's something they would have to be ready for and prepared to drop everything else to get them done/updated.
