I'm home sick and I was all excited about this, then I looked for my CD Keys and can't find them...

My DC Final install must have horked up, and unfortunately I didn't have all the installers to re-do everything last night. Bummer I missed out!

It was a good time. There wasn't a whole lot of cooperation and we were quickly reminded about of the lack of a squad and marking system. I also remembered how much superior BF1942 is to BF2 and BF2142. I love it despite the two previously mentioned 'wants'.

I think if we can make this a more regular occurance, we can work on getting some of that organization going. I had a great time though, forgot how much I missed Desert Combat.

I took off around 10:30 to grab something to eat and ended up falling asleep on the couch. Doh!

Re: Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat tonight!

We need to work on that map rotation. A couple of bad maps came up and we lost quite a few people. I know it's hard to please everyone but I don't know many people that like Coral Sea. I know we generally don't like VoteMap spams, but maybe we could turn it on for special events like this if our admins are gonna fall asleep on the couch

I apologize for not having my mic on last night in TS, but I got a new Headphone/Mic setup and apparently I still have some work to do.

Overall it was a good time. I really need to work on my arty skills. I forgot all about that aspect of '42/DC.

Re: Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat tonight!

Last night was a blast. The game may be "retro," but it's still a lot of fun. It seems like there's potential for future gatherings; if nothing else, we need to replay Battle of 73 Easting with everyone in on the battle plan. That map alone is worthy of a dedicated night of DC/BF1942, IMO.

I didn't see a couple of the old standby maps come up in rotation, namely, El Alamein and Gazala. It would be great to revisit those.

Out of interest, in the days gone by when TG had a DC server, how was it modded ?

We ran plain-vanilla DC, no DCX or anything. The only real differences between the configuration of last night and the old-school config was the view distances for nametags. We used to have it turned down to something like 50m. The reasoning for this is that a player in a good hiding spot or in a dark area should not have their position compromised just because an enemy passed their crosshairs over them.

Oh. I also did my own mods to all the maps to create "death bubbles" around all of the UCBs. They would cause damage to any enemy entering your UCB. The rate of damage varied based on the vehicle entering. If you were in a jet, you took slow damage for a few seconds and then took very rapid damage. This allowed jets to take out UCB-based artillery pieces that were engaging targets out in the battlefield. On foot, you only took slow damage and that was syncronized with the size of the bubble. You knew you were in the UCB based on the damage, but if you pushed forward, you would die before you made it all the way in to the vehicle pool. If you tried to enter a UCB in a tracked vehicle, you took massive damage VERY quickly.

45 minute round times, 200% ticket ratio.

I had a great time, only wish I could have stayed longer. If we do this on a regular basis, we should have a few CTF maps in the rotation.

I was a CTF nut and played nothing else. I had great fun with CTF. I used to play on european servers with heavily modified maps (fast spawn vehicles & double spawn vehicles). It's a shame I never found TG conquest but oh well

I agree, those two maps were what I looked forward to most and we played neither.

I also agree with Apophis - I think we could get the teamplay thing down a bit better. All it would really take is a little time for us to all get used to the map coordinates and where the flags are in relation to said coordinates.

We'll look to make this a regular event. I'll help push this along after the new year... and I'll get the admin tool setup so when our fearless leader falls asleep I can make changes to the maps.

Damn, I missed it. I don't usually visit this part of the forum. Just as an idea. Maybe there could be a special events calender for BF games. Like scrims and one night only special events like this. As well as TGU events. If there is one already then a big fat D'oh for me.

Good deal. And for those who lost their keys or don't have it in the first place, you can get all of BF1942 and BFV in a combo deal at BB for $20, so theres no excuse to not own these games. $10 per game is a steal no matter how you slice it, and though they are graphically inferior - they still are a lot of fun and really perform well...so what's not to like?

Outstanding! Somebody please post the map rotation. I wasn't there long and I would like to know what I missed. Was Lost Village there? That was one of my favorites.
