Re: Marine Corps OCS

Good routine, but as with all workouts you have to change up the routine every once in a while to "shock" your muscles into developing again. It's the same principle that body builders do. After working a routine for a set amount of time, your muscles will adapt and growth (strength and endurance-wise) will level out. Shocking your muscles with a different routine will stimulate them into growing again.

For example, instead of long-distance runs, try various forms of sprints for a stretch of time. Wind sprints work wonders in increasing your muscle and cardiovascular endurance.

If after all these workouts you're feeling no pain in your muscles (or not feeling that pain to the degree you felt when you first started) then it's time for a change in your routine. It doesn't have to be dramatic, it just has to be different. Even something as simple as switching the order you perform your workouts (reverse the workout order in your week by doing saturday on monday, wednesday on saturday, etc) can be helpful.

As for shin splints... I dunno. I got them when I first joined and remember the searing ache I had after every run. :P Shin splints are just underdeveloped tendons. Don't push yourself TOO hard and they'll eventually go away.

Ah, it's important to realize that there are many different types of pain that are labeled as "shin splints" and just as many causes of the pain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_splints
