I was a big fan back in the day. This looks promising.

Re: Transformers Movie
Michael Bay is quite probably the worst director of our time. Expect this to suck hard.

I really enjoyed the island so I'm hoping this is a turning point for him.

Re: Transformers Movie
The Rock and Armageddon were great films. Bad Boys 1 and 2 were ok. The Island was good. How can you be bad when you directed the Playboy Video Centerfold: Kerri Kendall? I mean come on.

Re: Transformers Movie
Perhaps not the worst but certainly he's put out some rather large turds. Pearl Harbor still makes me vomit in my mouth when I think about it.
When I first saw the trailer for Transformers I figured out what it was a preview for before they rolled up the logo and I was completely psyched. Then I saw Michael Bay was involved and it makes me slightly hesistant to get my hopes up too high. Regardless, I will see the film and as much as I think he's stunk in the past I really hope he pulls it off.
If Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer were involved with the making of this movie it would be the kiss of death.

Re: Transformers Movie
Spielberg's involved too - so that should help. Plus there's no historic record to deal with like w/ Pearl Harbor....

Re: Transformers Movie
Michael Bay isnt the worst. Paul Verhoeeven (sp?) is the worst. Starship Troopers anyone?
I'm a huge Robert Heinlein fan and he completely destroyed any potential the book had to be a great movie. Firstly, half the characters that died didnt die in the book. Secondly, they left out 4 or 5 main characters. Third, why do you hire a director who hates the military with a fiery passion to make a military movie? He made them look like nazis! (If you think im joking, compare the uniform that carl is wearing in the funeral scene to an SS officer's uniform from WWII, not to mention the Federation symbol looks like the nazi eagle.) But this thread is about transformers, not ST, so i'll leave it alone.
But yes, Michael Bay is a horrid director.

Re: Transformers Movie
Did you see the 2009 camaro that was yellow and black? It was bumblebee!! They had a article in Hot Rod magazine a few months back talking about the Camaro they built to use in the movie.
I loved this when i was a kid, and i cant wait for the movie!

Re: Transformers Movie
I just watched Clerks II, so this thread is making me giggle just a bit. Just remember, Transformers are fine, but Trolls don't exist.

Re: Transformers Movie
Verhoeven made Robocop though, which is ten kinds of awesomeness. And Total Recall was pretty slick as well. Verhoeven's a stylistically gifted director, unlike Bay.
Apparently, there's also a Voltron movie coming http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472429/ . I'm a bit more interested in that one because it's more obscure and lends itself more to crazy reinterpretation. What an odd franchise to make into a movie.

Re: Transformers Movie
I agree. With everyone. I expect the film to be rancid swill so if it's not I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I think Bumblebee must get jacked up because in in some of the leaked images he's both a 1974 camaro and a 2007 camaro.

Re: Transformers Movie
Bad directors....hmm.....Bay and Verhoeven dont have anything on Uwe Boll.
And I usually go into movies expecting rancid swill, so maybe I will be pleasantly surprised at least with nostalgia.
Its true that the guy who did the original voice for Optimus is voicing him again, right?
LOL, Voltron......I wonder if theyll cut the monster in half sideways or vertically at the end?

Re: Transformers Movie
Hey, Startship Troopers was garbage.
In fact, one time, at band camp, I got in trouble and my punishment was to watch the movie over and over again with the sound on high. Tough, tough level gang.
I agree with Bleak, 'Total Recal' was great.
In conclusion, I do not know about this movie. There's more than meets the eye here, I know it.
Sorry guys, I had to say it.
PS
Spielberg seems to have his name attached to everything someone is trying to hustle.
In fact, Sec of State, Collin Powel quoted him during his U.N. speech to sale the invasion of Iraq.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member
