Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I've been using this service for quite a while now. I spend the $5 / month for unlimited space. It has saved me several times especially when I lost my HDDs during a house fire.

I might try this out. How secure is it?

From their site...
# 128-bit SSL encryption: The same technology used by banks secures your data during the backup process.
# 448-bit Blowfish encryption: Secures your files while in storage, providing peace of mind that your private data is safe from hackers.

I've started using it and I'm quite impressed. It didn't cooperate at the beginning but now it's starting to get along.

Is everyone still liking this? I was considering mozy or backblaze.com
I like that backblaze will let you restore via a shipped USB drive (albeit for a fee).

I'm absolutely satisfied with Mozy. It's hard to tell, but that's a strong endorsement. It's just hard to get excited about online data backup, y'know?

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I'm very satisfied. For $5 / month I get unlimited space. And after I lost all of my computers in a house fire I was happy to have everything backed up online. I only wish I had converted my 8mm family videos to digital and backed them up.
Mozy will also FedEx your backed up files on DVD for a fee.

Was the restore process easy/painless. How easy is it to restore your files from their servers?

It works just like a networked drive. Very simple. You decide what files you want to restore.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I'm backing up all my vacations pics to my Mozy account right now. Still very pleased w/ this service. I hope I never need it, but it's nice to know all my files are safe in case of a disaster.
Rince, like Cing said, it shows up in your "My Computer" (in Win XP, at least) as a networked drive. You double click it, and you can browse what you backed up, and restore what you want by selecting the files or folders and right click and hit restore. Or you can opt for the DVDs if you want.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
+1, I've been using this for a while, for multiple puters. Works well. Test restores (you DO test your backups, don't you?) worked well.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
Mozy does charge per computer to backup. What I've done is create a central computer to act as my file server. All computers store documents / photos / etc. on this one computer and then I back up this one to mozy. It works great.
Restoring was easy to just as everyone mentions. I also changed my drive / folder structure and when you restore you can select where to restore to.
Another thing that mozy does is versioning. You can pick a certain version of a file to restore.
