Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I guess my only concern would be what they would do with my files. I mean it's all great to say, "I wont touch them or let anyone else touch them" but it's another thing to actually go through with that. I'd worry that some files I have with passwords, or other finance information could be looked at.
I don't have much of that type of stuff on my computer... but I guess I'd worry about that. I've already lost a ton of baby pictures and other info on my two crashed harddrives so I need to come up with some way to preserve this crap. I guess I just need piece of mind that my info wont ever be accessed for any reason. Is there any terms of service that specifically says that?"They laugh at the law... but they don't laugh at me."

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I do believe they'll let you provide the encryption key which is used to protect your files, if you like (they have tools that help you create it -- you don't have to know a thing about encryption). The risk, there, is that there's nothing they can do to get you access to your own files if you ever forget/lose the encryption key.
Option 2, of course, is that you don't have to care about encryption keys, and you have to trust their claims to not let anyone (including them) into your files.Steam Community? Well I am thankful I used Mozy before my system decided to take a dump. Thank you guys for putting this topic on the forums.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
Just as kind of an aside, if they use a similar encryption setup to the program that my company uses then their network people will not have access to anything stored without the encryption key that you have, short of them having hacked the encryption.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
So essentially I can have a copy of my entire hard drive there?

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
Yes, if you want to take the time to upload it all. Keep in mind that encrypting the data takes time and most people's upload rates aren't the greatest. I thought I wanted to back up my entire HDD too, at first. I've since decided that since all of my music and movies are still available on disk up in my attic, that I won't be backing them up with Mozy. Out of my 1700 GB of disk space that I have, I'm only backing up 80 GB... Once you complete your initial backup, it does just synch your storage, so it doesn't take nearly as long to maintain your backup.

No Linux support.
Guess I won't be backing up my file server there.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
Heck yeah! I actually had to do a big data recovery this last weekend from Mozy. I also dealt with their customer service which was really, really helpful in getting me going on my restore.
I have over 200 GB of family photos, music, and tax/business documents encrypted and stored on their cloud. The program takes snapshots of the data that you choose to have backed up, and you can download that data or use integrated shell/virtual drive to restore it.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
I've been using this since Wyz first pimped it. I've got a Pro account and it's been VERY helpful. I even used the web restore once when I was at work and needed to get copies of files I had on my home machine.
I foresee using this for a LONG time to come.

Re: mozy.com (free personal backup solution w/ encryption)
Very much so. I'm also using the pro version for unlimited space / bandwidth. Using this service saved my butt when I had the fire and lost all of my machines / hard drives. I also like that it versions your files so if you overwrite something you can download a previous version.
It will take a while to do the initial backup. Depending on how much you're backing up it can take several weeks. After that I don't even notice it.

My teacher is quite skeptical of Online backing-up utilities, but he should try this one.
