Re: Final Fantasy virgin
I have played 8, Tactics Advance, and 9. I want to play the others but I am not that big on the series or Japanese RPGs in general.
Granted I don't even want to call them RPGs since there is no real role playing the games are linear as all hell. Which is why I prefer Western RPGs. I enjoy my RPGs being as open ended as possible. Oh and Titan Quest has made me a loot whore.
Edit: I do have FF7 and 8 for the PC and will give them a play through at some point. I just find it strange I don't like Japanese RPGs I am a big anime fan but I just have no love for JRPGs.RX-78-2 Gundam EFSF Protoype Close Combat Mobile Suit Armor: Luna Titanium Armament: 2x Beam Sabers, 2x 60mm Head vulcan guns 380mm Hyper bazooka, Beam Rifle, Beam Javelin, Hyper Hammer, Gundam Hammer, shield

Re: Final Fantasy virgin
Ironically enough, this thread inspired me to pick up FFX-2 again this week and I'm actually enjoying it. Maybe I hated it the first time because I played it right on the heels of beating FFX which was an epic. FFX-2 seemed too light hearted and the changes to the characters didn't seem to fit.
I played it for like 5 hours straight on Wednesday though!!"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country.

Re: Final Fantasy virgin
Can someone characterize this game for me? (in particular the more recent ones)
Is it one of those hack and slash and increase level and hack and slash bigger things games? Like Might and Magic?
Or is it more like Zelda?
I've played just about every other "RPG" game, so try to draw some comparisons.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: Final Fantasy virgin
Wow, you really are a Final Fantasy virgin. Hmmm, did you ever play Dragon Warrior on NES? It's kind of like that.
You have a party of characters, but when you're exploring the game world, that party is represented by a single character (the game's main character). You encounter enemies randomly as you adventure through the world and talk to people to learn more about the storyline or unlock side missions.
Combat is mostly turn based. Each iteration of the game has a slightly different version, but basically you have X number of people in your battle party. Each is given a turn to either attack, cast a spell, use an item, or use a special ability. Your enemies also attack with a set frequency depending on what type of monster they are. So there's no hack and slash, you give your characters commands through a menu interface when their turn comes up and they execute them. Enemies range from small insects to huge fiends that are dozens of times larger than your character.
I've only played FFX and X-2... X is a very linear adventure that goes along a set storyline that you progress through as you move from area to area. X-2 is very non-linear, where you can travel to any area of the game world via airship to take on missions. You can choose to do take side missions that earn you bonus items or charge through the storyline without spending time doing anything else. FFX is one of the best games I've ever played though, played through it multiple times and still love it.
I'm thinking about picking up FF3 and FF4 Advanced for my DS to get my feet wet in some of the older titles.
[Edit] Oh, forgot to mention. FFXI is an online MMORPG type of game and from what I understand FFXII (the most recent episode) is a more traditional linear RPG in the form of FFX.Last edited by Evo<^|SiNz|^>; 02-02-2007 at 06:12 PM.

Used to play FFVII on my PSOne. Haven't played anything from the FF series since.
