Gamers are willing to play your games, they aren't however willing to pay that much for them. Take for example, if I could buy whole songs for 10 cents a song, I'd become more of a music afficianado. I believe the same goes for games.
To say games have gotten overpriced is an understatement. PS3 and XBOX 360 games are $60 a pop. It's no real surprise why people pirate games anymore. Doing so on the 360 has gotten so easy, it doesn't even require a mod chip.

On the plus side, you can at least rent console games to see if they are worth buying before you actually buy it. Not so easy on the PC, and once you open it, you own it.

I too feel as some others here, that once we are all forced onto consoles, piracy will become more of an issue. A friend of mine showed me the elaborate network that piraters used for online gaming with the original xbox. Large harddrives, 100's of games, and their own network to find and game with each other, bypassing the need for a live membership. There will always be something like this for every console.

See, Doom 3 was $60 brand-new when it really deserved to be in the bargain bin.

The thing about 360 games is that the ones worth buying are worth 60 bucks. Those that aren't don't last a month at 60 bucks.

If anyone is the worst about this, it's Nintendo. Their "Hallmark" games are routinely left at full price for YEARS after their popularity is gone. I never bought Super Mario Sunshine because it was still 40 bucks even when the GameCube was about to be released (at least in my part of town).

When was the last time you saw "Nintendo's greatest hits" with their best titles knocked down to 10 to 20 bucks?

Hell, I never replaced my Mario 64 because even after losing it over two years after the console came out, Nintendo wanted top dollar for it.

Companies release demos for a reason.

Gamers will never be forced completely onto consoles. There will always be a market of pure PC gamers out there. Even more so when you consider that TG's most popular game a few years ago was a mod for the aging Half-Life engine.

Piracy will always be an issue when devs release crappy games.

Mario 64 is worth an extra $70, because it is just that awesome.

Of course, the most popular solution to PC game piracy is Steam, which fails almost on a weekly basis during peak gaming hours--at least the folks at EA maintain a decently functional system.

EA's system is annoying and powered by adware :P
