Proof why

The serialized parts are hand stamped.
The gun was used during WW2 and retired to a warehouse in the early 1950’s
Scratches and few small dents in the stock of the gun
And the absolute poof I have is name of the soldier who had the gun carved into the side of the stock (I can’t remember the name right now but I will post it when I get home from school)
That's not necessarily "proof" that it's not a replica, I've seen replicas of the M1 that are intentionally "worn" so they look authentic. But based on the description I would agree that it is likely authentic. Authentic SKS varieties are very easy to come by these days. The best way to tell is to verify the serial numbers against known ranges used during the authentic manufacturing period.

Out of curiosity, what parts are serialized? I'd like to compare that to my Norinco model. Do you know who manufactured your dad's SKS? I'd like to get my hands on one of the Russian models.

No, you told me that the Dodge Viper would be more practical or versatile to drive than the Model-T:

I disagreed. For my purposes, I find just as much practicality and versatility in the Model-T. I appreciate both, and (in terms of guns) I own several of both. And, since the replica firearms industry is expanding rather than shrinking, I must not be the only one who appreciates the Model-T.

If these guns interest me in any way, it's because of the technology and how we got there. You can look at these firearms and see how the tech progressed over the years. Being a technically oriented guy, that's what puts me onto them.

It's the same reason I keep the Winchester and Remington up on the wall, and my PX4 and XD .40 in my gun bag.
So besides enjoying them (which I can respect), the main gist of what you're saying is that you like to shoot your PX4 and XD because they're cheaper. I can reload .45 Colt/Schofield, .44 Magnum/Special/Russian, .357 Magnum/.38 Special, or any other caliber that I once considered expensive for less than I can buy bulk 9x19mm or .40 S&W. On top of that, with a revolver, I can shoot a much wider variety of loads than I can with an autoloader. Hence, my dispute of your claim that revolvers aren't practical or versatile in today's world. If they weren't, Ruger and Smith & Wesson wouldn't sell so many of them (and I'm not talking about replicas here; I'm talking about modern revolvers).

If cost is a major concern for you, I'd recommend that you check out reloading. You may find that your taste in firearms broadens, and you may come to understand why other folks enjoy shooting (without breaking their budgets) more than just a PX4 or an XD.

Whatever. Next time (if I'll even bother to give you any links next time) try guessing what the blinking smiley means.

EDIT: just for the sake of it, go ahead and tell us all what the original is.
EDIT2: On second thought, lets just drop it.

Oh, man, that's a hoot. I've shot a twenty round group that was under 2 inches at a hundred yards with an M16. Good shooters with good AR15s can get their group to stay within a one inch circle easily. Shooting from a bench, a half inch group at a hundred yards is common.

I was wondering why nobody said anything about the 6 inch circle earlier. I wouldn't consider myself a good shooter but I can group my AR with in a one inch circle.

Re: Any Historical Gun Collecters at TG?

I can’t get to the gun yet because it is behind a ton of Christmas and Halloween decorations. I’m not sure where it was manufactured. As for the serialized parts if I remember correctly it is on the Barrel, Butt, Bolt, and Magazine. There might be some more spots it’s on so I’ll post where they are once I am able to get to the gun.

I just thought it was kinda funny since you were talking about an SKS being the most accurate thing ever!
