Re: Handle name?
Let us see...
When I first entered the online world, I used the handle mongront (same as my aim, I've had this when AOL first started). I don't know where I got that name, but it stuck. Later I got tired of using it as a handle and trying to explain it, so I used the nickname digz on forums. Digz is my real nickname within my family, and I soon grew to dislike using it online. When CS hit 1.0 I changed it to marsh.mallow.shotgun because I dominated with that pump shotty. Soon it shrank to simply Marsh. When NS went 2.0 I changed it to squeak after pondering a new handle to be known by. Been squeak since and don't plan on changing it.

Re: Handle name?
Necessity is the mother of invention.
I did not have a computer in 1999 or so when Counterstrike first went retail, but a few friends of mine played and when at their house they would let us play. Because we couldn't play at the same time and we wanted to see how we were improving we decided to track ourselves with an online tracking system (I forget the name now, it did Quake II originally). Since using a common name resulted in just mixing stats with someone else's play as it went by handle I used "snooggums" because it was unique to CS. Oddly there was someone with the same handle from Quake II and I was asked about that but I never saw anyone else use it later. At 9 letters it is unique to every forum I've ever been too, every email I'm signed up for etc, so while it sounds silly it is truely unique and I have not had to change it.
Plus it keeps me from taking the games very seriously.
Pronunciation: snoo-long "u" sound like poo) ggums-"gums". so like "poo-gums"
Years later I hung out in person with people who I had played with online and everyone used each other's nicknames. My nick was so uncool it was cool, nobody could remember other people's but mine stuck.

Re: Handle name?
Mirfee was born in the original Ghost Recon (in single player). The game had tons of recorded lines for certain events, spoken by enemy and ally alike. The one I was most familiar with was the result of too many fumbled frags, and the ensuing friendly casualties I caused.
"Murphy! Murphy! They're on our side!"
This actually goes back to the original Rainbow Six, the sequels, etc (albeit GR introduced the 'Murphy' line). Can you say bouncing a frag off a doorjam, or rock and having it land in the middle of your team? Murphy indeed.
Yep... the AI named me.
When I got into MP gaming, the name jumped up as my obvious choice. Decided to change the spelling so it would be unique. For obvious reasons, my friendly fire rate dropped off pretty quickly once I had live team mates. But the name stuck.

Re: Handle name?
My handle goes back at least to '96 or '97, when I had dial-up and needed a screen name for AIM and Hotmail. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island was my favorite game at the time, so I wanted to go by "Yoshi". Of course, so did thousands of other people, so I needed something to differentiate myself. I added the "MCF" (my initials) because I wanted to have something easy to remember and I didn't like the idea of having a number.

Re: Handle name?
My name originates from 3rd edition Shadowrun (a cyberpunk table top rpg). Nulloperations is an action a decker preforms when they are waiting in cyberspace, preforming nothing and usually waiting for a trigger to act.
I choose the name when I joined the Dystopia community back in late 2005, just after Hurricane Katrina. Since my real life had decided to be reset, I decided to go ahead and recreate myself online. Still kept my old AIM name and such, but since I started using x-fire, ventrillo, and a score of new programs and so I choose a term that matched the new game I was a part of (dystopia), and it matched my favorite cyberpunk/sci fi/fiction setting (Shadowrun), I went with it.
Of note, I've used old handles like morhem_animer, quie, sheru, dronebrain, and quifrix.
Not for the Glory. Not for the Honor. For the Team.

Re: Handle name?
I started thinking about a nick for BF2 about a week before the game came out. I wanted to use a dictionary word that was easy to say, spell, and abbreviate.
It occurred to me while using a favorite PC utility disk called Corporate Mod Boot.

Re: Handle name?
Mine is not a sexy story like some of the above one. The Big C is a reference to my younger days when I joined the Army 17 years ago. I was weighing in a solid (healthy) 240 pounds from working out all the time and my 1st initial of my first and last name are both C. Hence- The Big C. Oh yeah baby, I have a vanity plate with that on it too!

Re: Handle name?
It's from an old 90s PC fighting game named FX Fighter. He was the main boss. Kinda lame but I chose it when I was a kid in high school and as I got older I just never felt like changing it.
Only problem now is Farscape had a character by the same name so everyone thinks I'm just a big fan of that show when I've never seen it.

Re: Handle name?
It's a bastardization of Balderdash:
1. senseless, stupid, or exaggerated talk or writing; nonsense.
Boulder because me and my friend used to play Smugglers Run a lot and I would always find an area with a ton of rocks and cause the people behind me to hit them and lose. Therefore, I'd always send them on a boulder dash.
