Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

I never used one, but where i was, a lot of people did, and some of them were like flamethrowers, but with paint.

Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

Been playing since 97, its a great game and its wonderful that you had a fun time. My suggestion is to give speedball a second chance later on when you got some more experience, people tend to play more "restrained" in speedball when they first start.

Once you get the gumption to move up amid 15bps coming at your head its a rush.

Oddly enough I hate any woods game with less than 50 but large scenarios are a blast, other than that I am XBall style. One of my friends just got a new Xball field and its great to play on.

Mainly use my Etek unless I feel like lugging out the Excal and the cocker is MIA til it comes back annoed.

If you are ever in the KY central area let me know.

Brass, What are you doing in September? I'm generalling Blackcat's Ia Drang Valley game. I get to be Mel Gibson. How do you feel about being surrounded?

Depends on what paint you're putting through the flatline.

I once ran a flatline on an A5 w/ RT, but shot fresh (well, well-kept, and < 1 month old) RPS Marbalizer paintballs (one of THE BEST darn paintballs you can buy) through it. Never 1 broken ball.

Btw, flatlines don't chop balls, nor does any other barrel. A chop is when the bolt slices the ball while the ball is in the chamber. This is one of THE messiest things to have to clean up. A barrel break is when the ball breaks in the barrel. This is what happens often when you don't use paint the A5 flatline likes with it.

In my experience (I'm an A-5 owner as well), the flatlines are VERY picky about what paint to use and under what conditions. So, I alleviated the problem for me by just not getting one. I use a standard-type barrel (not the stock barrel) with my A-5, and with good paint....shoots just fine.

Pickle, I don't know what I'll be doing in Sept. If its close enough for me to travel to, then I probably will go (esp. if I end up getting hired permanently with ACSS after my summer internship with them is over, and the weekend falls on one of the weeks where I get Friday off.....gotta love the 9/80 pay-period....9 days of work....still 80 hours). What about you and in August? Plague of Zombies is then in Prescott....Fallout is playing as the undead knomes (remember us from Shrek's Swamp?).

Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

Well i was just saying chop for general terms, but yah real chopping is when your hopper doesnt feed fast enough for your speed and the bolt crushes it. Its also more often to happen when you dont have eyes, which A5's dont.

Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

Ya, the A-5 doesn't have eyes, BUT, the cyclone system eliminates the need. It force feeds a ball every shot. If you're getting chops, then the ball is simply too big for the chamber (can we say "Walmart paint"?).

Proph, you got my last PM on specops, right? I'm serious when I say to not spend alot on upgrading the A-5, and save for a TacOne with T2W stock (IMO, much better than a longbow kit, with the same advantages....and you keep all your TacOne rails), and get the A-5 to cocker barrel adapter so you can use all cocker threaded barrels on your A-5, and then all your barrels will be compatable with your TacOne whenever you get her.

Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

Oh man, this makes me miss paintballing. My favorite field closed down here several years ago. It was a nice indoor field. It had a very unique game that they played called switches. There were five switches located in the facility and you simply switched it to your team color and then defended the switch. There was a counter in the staging area and which ever team had the switches the longest wins. If you were shot you walked to the staging area tapped a sign and went back in.

Great times.

Nah...I must've missed that one. Good advice though on the barrel interchangeability.

As for kitting out the TacOne...It's just a matter of time. Another couple of months, and I'll be ready to purchase. For now, I've got some bills to pay and am still having too much fun with the A-5 to shelve it just yet (I plan to keep it as a backup/loaner marker).

Re: AAR: Paintballing for the first time

I hear ya, man. But though it is fun, the tac-one is MUCH nicer. Just make sure you are set up for running on HPA when you get the TacOne....as it will NOT work well AT ALL on CO2.

ANd....I'm feeling the need to share some pball pics. Proph, you know about Veera, my new marker. Well, I've got pics of her:

And, in anticipation of much lighter HPA tank (bought her yesterday, and she should get here sometime next week), I got a rail and ASA for Veera and used it today while borrowing a buddy of mine's carbon fiber wrapped tank. Worked great, and the rail+asa look great on veera (much more "sexy" looking)

Brass...you went to Embry Riddle? My best bud graduated from there a few years back...he's an officer in the USAF now.

Yah, Veera looks dead-sexy. I'll try to take some pics later today (going hunting for wabbits at the Ft. Campbell p-ball field later today) and show off Mitzi, my A-5.

Yeah, I thought you knew I was a Riddle grad (could've sworn I mentioned that in my 9th bio back beginning of the calendar year).

And yes, Veera is dead sexy. Shoots awesome as well....for the paint I have to put through her. I think the barrel may be a BIT big. I'm probably going to call up PPS after I get my next paycheck and order another barrel from them, but this one to be dual spiral vented, 12" long, black powder coated, and about a .686" ID (inner diameter), with widgets. Consistency across the chrono is nice and tight, though. The reg springs just need to take seat.

Shameless plug: Yes, I have a Blog

It's turning out to be mostly paintball-related, but I've included some other stuff on there as well...including my BFCL fiction I did a while back.

Unique content posted nowhere else has already started in the form of some reviews...more to follow. Bookmarkable? Nah...even I myself wouldn't rate it that noteworthy.

Maybe in the future though...
