Re: Reputation System
I honestly dislike Rep systems but still utilize them. It was a rampant problem on Redvsblue.com, and still is. I was a member there from 2004-December 2006 after a great banning.
They called it "Karma." What it really accomplished was turning rvb into myspace 2.0a, with users like "Blawndee." A 17 year old Camwhore who never left her profile, and had a million users watching her etc. It created alot of drama and made a huge sepperation between myself and others (The RVB BAR) and the general public.
I think it just inflates egos, and I cast a silent vote to dismantle kudos, rep, karma, or any of the sort.

Re: Reputation System
I'm sure I do, too, but not because of the rep system here. I believe I have more simply because I'm a post whore that has been here for over 5 years!
How about this: Do you think you have more rep than Ednos?
You have no idea, do you? That's because our rep system here was set up after trying a few methods and coming up with one that does NOT inflate egos. It's now merely a method of letting other people know what you think of their posts, in private.Become a supporting member!

Re: Reputation System
I think that the PM system can do that nicely. Although, you don't get the automatic reference to the post the commenter is referring with PMs. The rep system does that nicely. What I think the rep system should be better at is integration with the PM system. It seems a lot of users use the rep system as a way to comment on posts and initiating private conversations. With the current rep system, I never notice when I get rep. I do notice when I get PMs though. If the rep system acted a bit more like PMs, that would be good.
I still think the rep system inflates egos though despite the countermeasures like hiding it from public. There are definitely some that have already stated they like seeing their own rep go up!

TheSkudDestroyer, being banned from RvB is an honor, not an insult.
I have 56,647 reputation points. Now do you know if you have more than me? If you used that number in a comparison to yours, I've got a bridge to sell you, by the way.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. ~ Bertrand Russell

Re: Reputation System
Oh, I do consider it a very high honor. See, we, about 20 people, along with a MOD took...things off the deep end December 17th 2006. NEVAR FORGET!
I was going to post the methods of our...raid...but I dont want NEG REP!
I'm holding steady at 59. That makes me 59 times better than a person with 1 post, correct?
