well done, folks

Beyond my signature there, I don't often promote our NS server in the natural-selection.org forums... for two reasons: a) unsolicited server/community promotions are frowned upon by the moderators there, whom I respect, and b) not everyone there would take value from the TG experience, and I want people here who take value.

Occaisionally, however, I send private compliments and invitations to community members who I observe to be respectful, mature, and generally nice folks. These are the types of people whose company I enjoy on our NS server presently, and these are the types of people that I'm always eager to surround myself with. Sometimes these messages are ignored, but typically it is the beginning of a conversation.

And so I invited someone this afternoon. He'd never heard of me, didn't give a damn about TG, and he already had a server to call home. I thanked him for treating the other members of the natural-selection.org forums with respect and invited him to join us on our NS server if he ever cared to. He accepted the thanks and explained he'd stop by.

I played very little tonight, for several reasons, one of which being the fact that I didn't get home from work until too near my bedtime (which I've still yet to obey tonight, but soon...). I saw this player on the server this evening, but only when I wasn't. However, I just received this message from him, and I thought I'd share it with you.

Those of you who don't play NS won't take as much value from some of the specifics in his message ("reswhore" is game jargon for one who hurts the team by keeping team resources to himself, and "blocking" an alien is indication of teamwork if you're marines), but it's a textbook example of the warm reception that so many people enjoy when coming to play typically-teamless games for the first time at TG.

You should all take a certain amount of pride from being part of a community that is so well received by new players.

His message, having played only one night on one of our servers:

Quote:
I liked it. I liked it alot.

People worked together, and there were no reswhores. What surprised me most was that when assaulting marine start, the marines waited at the entrances then attempted to block me from getting out. It was a plesant surprise.

I felt that I could depend on the others, a feeling that I haven't felt in quite some time. It let me relax, lay back, and just get some good gaming done.

I'll definitely be regularing there. I hope you'll accept me as a community member and a player.
That's very short, but it's very powerful to me, and I thought I'd share it... not to compliment me, anyone near me, or NS.. but to compliment Tactical Gamer.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: well done, folks

I'm always happy to see new people satisfied with the little nitche they have found at TG. Great job on creating such a welcoming environment for your NS players, Wyzcrak.
