That's Phoenix in the summer .

I keep my A/C SET to 78* and don't touch it. Saves on electricity b/c it only turns on when it needs to (as in, almost hits 79*), so when it is on, it doesn't have that steep of a temperature gradient to cool down to....thus it uses up less electricity.

I've had it like that the entire month (AC set to auto, never turned it off). Guess what my electricity bill was sans initial account activation fees? It was < $20. ANd, I live in Pheonix, AZ. Its a bit cool here, though, for us. Recent highs have only been in the low to mid 90's. We're heading fast for the normal 100+ highs though. Lows are normally in the 80's.

I feel for you Trooper. My Grandfather owned a commercial greenhouse and I spent a lot of time in there growing up. The thing about greenhouse heat is that it is also very humid, like a mini rain forest...I can almost smell the loom now!

Re: I can't take the heat anymore!

Only speaking for myself, but the UK had been having quite a nice spring. With Temps getting up to the barmy 20 degree bracket.

Back down to earth with a bump this weekend though. Temp dropped 10 degrees to exactly 10 degrees. And to top it all, its raining. (Holiday Weekend in the UK to boot, too).

Global warming my furry butt! Its just the same as it's always been.

Sounds like Al Gore could use a dose of this bit of "inconvenient truth" as well. :-p

^figured I'd make a quip on this seeing as global warming was brought up

Re: I can't take the heat anymore!

Well, I have to say, I somewhat believe in "global warming" seeing how the temperature variations here in Chicago have been crazy over the last few years. (almost like Iowa, 40F one day, 80F another)

Re: I can't take the heat anymore!

It was 118 the day I moved into my apartment last summer. It rained that morning so there was some humidity as well. I'd be jumping for joy if it were in the 80s right now!

Re: I can't take the heat anymore!

80's is always nice....then again, it only gets that low once the sun goes down.

Re: I can't take the heat anymore!

or just bite the bullet and pay for air conditioning. Coming from Texas and living in DC now, I can't imagine ever living without it.

Incidentally, I'll take Dallas heat to DC's any day of the summer.

I'll probably be following FKD's suggestion here soon, although I won't make it QUITE as far west.

Sorry Obi, I didn't see your post!

You're right about the shortage of Scots - we're not going to be taking over any time soon...

I'm in Edinburgh. I have a pin in the Google map thingamywhatsit which is right on top of my house if you want to know exactly where (NOTE - Stalkers, stay away! Unless of course you're Angelina Jolie).

Where are you?

@Jeepo - tough luck mate, I didn't realise it was so wet over there. Still, it's a good crack, innit?
