If the price is too good to be true. Then it is. Also be on the lookout for shops that will try to up sell you!
Agreed, we had this discussion previously. This would be a good thread to read:

Rincewind could not be more right on this one.

I almost made the mistake of going to Bestpricecameras.com. Then I looked at a rating and it was almost 1% positive!

Also look at www.ripoffreport.com. It’s a good information source for consumers.

I believe Bestpricecameras.com and Wawadigital/Starlight are the same company. A company to definitely stay away from.

Re: What Camera to buy?

Apo, you should try one of the little Coolpixes with the ED lenses (same camera I had at your house). Really, they take perfect photos every time no matter what the condition or zoom level. They're a bit pricier then the regular ones but well worth it unless you plan on spending time in Photoshop fixing up your photos.

Plus, it pays off if you ever take video clips with it.

As for the ad I found... I of course agree. Sadly, I just googled it and didnt go further. hehe. At any rate, you should be able to find a D80 housing-only for around $500 regardless. If you've already got lenses you MIGHT be able to get away with just purchasing adapters that'll mate to your new camera, this way you wont be forced into buying a lense you dont want or need.

So before you go paying extra for a DSLR w/lense maybe you can do some searching for viable adapters for the expensive lenses you may already have.

Re: What Camera to buy?

Ricewind: I know about resellers. I used to belong to their fourm when they were part of sysopt.com, till scott sold out. And then started up techimo.com. He purchased back resellers later on.

{Edit:added this in} Also ricewind. look at www.trollhunters.com for a very good list of the trolls out here trolling the diffent fourms.

Anyhow. was to darn hot and muggy here today to ride the bus anyplace so I just been web looking and reading reviews. leaning towards the D80 kit from B&H right now, tho that could change once I get to the ritz camera store here and check it and the D40x and XTi out in person. the ritz store here wants $1,299.99 for just the D80 with the 18-55mm, B&H has a very nice kit with the 18-135mm, two 2 gig sd II's and more, and even after added on a spare battery, filter, training dvd and new pen cleaner, and taxes/shipping, it is still cheaper then geting it local.
LOL, I will probley need a new photo software app later too. With the casio I just been using paint.net. what do ya thing about paint shop pro photo XI? $70.00

Re: What Camera to buy?

The new paintshop pro is way underrated. I used to have Photoshop CS, and switched over to Paintshop Pro XI. Photoshop is very good but the learning curve is steeper than I need for what I want to do. (I'm not a graphic artist I just want to make my digital pic's really "pop".)

It is simply a great software for touching up and enhancing your digital photos.

I highly recommend it unless you are doing ridiculously difficult pro work on your photos.

If you just want to adjust curves etc and maybe delete a power-line or something that is spoiling your pic then PSP XI is fantasic.

Re: What Camera to buy?

I just have a normal D40.

So as you can see just a cheep(compaired to all the rest of them) DSLR can do great things.
if you want to see more of what a D40 can do check by

I personly don't think the diffrence between a 6MP and 10MP is all that much.Unless you going to make huge prints, then get a 12MP or greater.

Re: What Camera to buy?

Majwood: I don't do anything over 8x10.
But now I have a problem. I read that the Quad cores are dropping in price again in the middle of July. The last time I looked at newegg a couple weeks ago, the 2.44GHz quad was $599.00USD. Sooo I errmm might have to get one of those, depending on how much it drops in price and a new case/memory/mobo/psu/vid card to run it. And a place to put it, Got four rigs in here now.
Boy my computer hobby is expenisve hehe
