I've got two girls and counting...a handful, but easier to raise (at younger ages at least than boys).

Regarding the first date scenario, I already have my op-plan. I think the polishing the gun thing might be a little overused now (though it is my strong No. 2). So when he comes to the door (do the even do that anymore?) I will be firm but cordial, especially while my daughter is present. I will ask them where they are going in general...restaraunt, movie theater, but will not ask for too many specifics (more on that later).

After they leave, I will be going out to play "poker with the boys" aka, following my daughter and her date. If they head some place unscheduled or untowards she will get an "emergency" phone call from me and that she needs to come home. By then I plan on having 2-3 insta-emergencies in my bag-o-tricks.

Otherwise, while they are on their date I will occasionally appear iwithin n eyeshot of the boy for no more than the blink of an eye every now and then. Just long enough for him to think "Hey, wasn't that...nahhh.....ummm, maybe!" but not enough to bring it up to my daughter for fear if sounding paranoid.

I will then be sure to get home before them and meet them at the door. Again, I will ask for no specifics. I will kiss my daughter goodnight and send her upstairs reeling in delight from the knowledge that she has a super cool dad and maybe a new boyfriend. Then as the boy is leaving I will call out to him and say "Maggiano's is my favorite restaraunt too!" or "I didn't think Superman XVII was very good, how about you?". He of course suddenly realizing that I was tailing them all evening because they never told me where they ate or what movie they saw will leave him feeling a little less comfortable...

On a side note, no matter how young they are don't let them watch movies like Scarface. I was watching it with my oldest daughter when she was about 16-18 months old and everytime someone got shot, she would laugh. While it was a little amusing, it was more than a little disturbing.

Yes, do be prepared for endless hours of play with naked Barbies (believe me, the thrill of playing with naked Barbies wears off pretty quickly) and tea parties, lots of tea parties...
