I'm in Austin and have been on and off for over a decade. Austin is very liberal and the people are very laid back. There are all kind of events in the city from Art festivals downtown, free movies in the park and the infamous Eyeores Birthday just to name a few. The city is very engulfed in the music scene to the point where local bands are showcased on morning television news shows. We have several natural springs which provide popular swimming holes for summer and Town Lake which runs directly through downtown.

As for comparing it to California I'm not your guy. I've only been as far west as Denver.

True enough. From what I hear, austin is the most liberal place in texas, and right nearby is ron paul's home district which is a plus for me. However, I also hear that it's hot as hell there... is this true?

It's hot anywhere in Texas during the summer. We've been lucky this year having had a ton of rain (last friday we hit a record of 36 out of 39 days with rain) and are yet to hit 100 degrees. During a normal summer it's not unusual to have 30+ days of 100 degree heat in July-August. Add on 80-90% humidity and yes, it gets hot. But you get used to it..=)

Hey, I'm going to be in Benbrook this fall, I'll check the place out!

The rain has been a godsend this year. Everyone's grass is still GREEN in august. I've had to mow a ton this summer though.

Fort Worth, TX. My hometown. Hit the gun show when you can over at the Will Rogers Coliseum over in the Cultural District (on Camp Bowie in W. Ft. Worth). Also, the Fort Worth Brahmas start playing hockey in the Tarrant Co. Convention Center in downtown Ft. Worth in about two months, so don't miss that. Cheap entertainment and there's a slew of good restaurants downtown. If you like steak, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House is across the street from the Convention Center. If you like Cajun, I recommend Razoo's.

Check out the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field. Ego-and-steroid-free baseball.

Re: Fort Worth, Texas :D

Fort Worth is definitely a lot more interesting than Dallas.

And, you're in for the next Texas TG bbq, right? RIGHT?!?!?!

P.S. - Remember to let us know if you ever make the 5 hour trek down to H-town. I'm sure someone would be willing to show you around.
