Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
Their official policy is not to give refunds, but my own experiences are that a polite request results in an informal "one time only, customer service response" of refunding the money.
But have you guys tried connecting to regular server? Because the thread I linked has people experiencing the same problem after buying the deal not being able to connect to vanilla servers.
I think there has only been one other game that didn't allow custom maps on steam--and that was only rumor, not personal experience. I've played dozens of games where mods were just fine. GRAW2 should be under your common folder and as far as the servers are concerned it's a retail version. The thing is that the servers might be detecting steam itself as a cheat program. One thing you could try, and mods delete this if it's too taboo, is to use a nocd and run without steam. Or try to run without steam as is, Titan Quest/Immortal Throne are able to be run without steam running.
Steam is evidently working on compatibility issues: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...=709356&page=3
One thing I forgot to mention is to try running GRAW2 with admin privileges. That link suggests re-installing it with admin privs. I'd try both ways before giving up as one or the other sometimes resolves these kinds of issues

Server Updates? When was the last one to come out for GRAW2? Early 2008?

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
I got a refund from them within just a few hours of the scathing email I sent them.
also, I played on the TG GRAW2 server for over 10 hours this weekend..I had a couple of crashes to desktop, but no other problems. I think the connection issues arise if people trying to join do not have the maps..there is no provision with GRAW2 to download a map from the game server as far as I know. And we have a PILE of custom maps on there...none of them easy to say the least.

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
Wow, I must have missed everybody. I tried hitting the server every now and then but it was always empty. I was even on TS in the GRAW2 channel hoping others would join to get a game going.
On another note, is there a list of all the maps required to play on the server? I saw the sticky but no info is there ATM

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
I'm wondering have you guys tried disabling the online feature for Steam and playing the game in "offline mode"? Does that have any affect on how the game runs and its ability to connect to the server?
I was having problems with a game, and ended up doing that. I'm able to play mods that the game intended to support now. Though it's a singleplayer game, it might not act the same. Worth a try I suppose.
It's still $19.95 on the Direct2Drive website which is supposed to work fine. You might try there as a last resort. Even if you bought that bundle as well you're still paying less than the bundle is worth. :P This is why I am very reluctant on buying Steam games. The last one I bought they didn't provide a CD key and I had to wait for an update for one a few days later."They laugh at the law... but they don't laugh at me."

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
When you install a game with admin privs sometimes it writes to the registry and its files differently than as a standard user. Likewise if you install a game while running steam with admin privs.
You can double check if this is true for your system by looking at the ownership of the files. I believe you'll find that some are "SYSTEM" owned rather than your normal user, which could cause problems in some instances and solve them in others. That's a separate issue from running the actual game as admin, which is why I recommended both. The thread also has a quote from support explaining to do what I wrote, so while I don't know all of the technical reasons for it, assuming we can trust Valve support then one might try the different things I mentioned.

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
Might be fixed now!
I just now followed this process: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...2037-QEUH-3335 and I am able to connect to multiplayer games now. However all my settings got reset when verifying the cache.
I connected to the TG server too, so it seems they fixed it. Now everybody who bought the Ghost Recon pack off steam go verify your game cache, try connecting to the TG server and report back here.TG-E1st TacticalGamer European Division | Watch this (pretty old) video to find out what TG is all about

Works for my Steam version now. I loaded all the map packs I just joined the server. Thanks a bunch!

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
Which server are you guys connecting to? All I saw was a #2 server that was unlocked. The sticky in the forum here says there's a #1 that's locked but doesn't show up to me.

Re: Do not use steam for graw 2
I think this problem's been fixed. I was on one of TG's GRAW servers yesterday with the new maps or whatever.
