Peaking is a good feature but didn't seem to help much and the action can come at you from quite a ways off. Of course I was pretty awkward being so far from gaming the last year. I basically just had everyone follow and didn't hand out any orders.

It felt a little laggy, maybe it was a sluggish mouse, not sure. The 850XT should eliminate any performance issues so we'll see tonight I guess.
I haven't had any issues with my X850XT. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it!

It took me a while to get back into the Ghost Recon swing of things, but once I did I was very pleased with the game. I find it very true to the original in terms of a realistic feel. I was especially impressed with the fact that if you move up too close to a building you "retract" your weapon. Weapons in GR are unlike their "vaporware" counterparts in most other games.

By the sounds of your specs, you should be fine. I was running at 1024x768, but i'm going to try pumping that up tonight and see how it performs.

On an entirely separate note; it's great to see you!

Thanks Apo, unfortunately, broadband just sucks where I am and its just to expensive, cable rates keep climbing and no DSL yet so we're offline at the moment. I'm only gonna be able to enjoy the SP.

Its nice to check back in tho and hopefully I be a little more active.

Halo insert was cool and droppin in by rope with the dust flying and waiting for it to settle to see where you are is really awesome.

I also appreciate the "mature" design of the game. they didn't and didn't need to turn this into a "M" rated game by jacking up the gore and language to make it good. Stuff I don't need my 5yr old seeing should he pass by the computer if I'm playing.

I did also notice that when I crawled up to a low planter and got too close, the weapon retracted...it was cool and obviously very realistic. I had trouble figuring out where the fire was coming from and the enemy blended well into the environment and once fire commensed stayed behind vehicles and such. No more running to the fire to be picked off and 10 enemy falling in a big pile one after the other....."thankfully".

Re: Demo now...

Just remember, in the demo the textures are set at medium, if it would of included high textures, the demo would of probably been over a gig...

the full game will have high textures and AA support, (currently you can select AA in the advance graphic options, but people are claiming that it's not working.

I only got about thirty minutes or so yesterday with it, will be spending a couple of hours today on the demo.

The main thing I don't like so far is 1) why so much yellow? and 2) in the intro, you can see the four ghost walking down the street (which is wrong in the first place), but in the demo, I order follow me, and there never that close, the formations are way to open... how the heck we suppose to support each other when so far apart?

People got to realize 2 other things 1) Don't look at GRAW as GR2 (or 3), look at it as it's own game... it's set in the future for one, and if you ever visit the official Army web site and check out some of there info/articles, you will see alot of this stuff is in development for use. It's a "futurist game". 2) Those saying "no thx" to GRAW, "I'll wait for Armed Assault", dudes, have you seen the screenshots for Armed Assault? Have you read whats included in Armed Assault? I have a feeling Armed Assault is going to require a bigger machine then GRAW. (Just my belief, no evidence.)

I thought I read that people w/ 512MB video cards were getting the option for high textures.

Re: Demo now...

Well I finally had some time to give the game a test drive. Wow, I am completely impressed. The demo had surpassed my expectations. I am sure now that my pre-order from a long time ago is not in vain. Not only is the game stunning to look at, but the sound is fantastic. I used to be a hardcore GR guy waayyyyy back, and it looks like they are going to hook me agin. I'm pumped about this title, and very excited to be apart of that experience here at TG. WOOT! I need to get back, and figure out how all the interfaces work.

Re: Demo now...

I tested the demo out with my X300 SE with the default settings and got around 8FPS. I tried running FRAPS for a part of the intro but the movie just turned out to be this messed up white/purple/black screen. Does it give you that kind of screen when it loads, because my loading screen looks like that.

I will try turning everything low or off, but that may not help that much.

Re: Demo now...

Somebody else mentioned the amount of yellow in the game. They are correct. It is like a big dog urinated on the world. But the gameplay is so intense you forget about aftere about 3 minutes.

Maybe they chose the colours so they are not distracting?

Re: Demo now...

Maybe the developers really don't like Mexico.

Actually it's just the artistic direction. Like some dystopian futures are usually gray or utopian futures are white and chrome or stuff like that; it's a unified visual theme that ties together disparate elements.

It's got that whole "Black Hawk Down" effect, you know. Kinda de-saturated and surreal...like something bad is about to happen! LOL!

Re: Demo now...

For a large city like Mexico, there sure aren't any cilvians anywhere. Its like a ghost town. Could at least use a couple street sweepers

I got thru to the 3rd auto game save. Still got 2 ghosts and myself. I'm beginning to think that the friendly AI needs some work. They don't seem to find cover very well and I find that when I give them a command in the command map and set their cone to scan a certain direction they sometimes look the opposite way and I jump back into the command map and their cone isn't what I set it to. Somehow the ghost do tend to stay alive. They either can take a serious pounding or the enemy can't hit the broadside of a barn.

They sneak along at corners and blind spots ok sometimes but sometimes they just round a corner standing tall and all hell breaks lose.

I had one calling out a sniper which was cool as he commenced to empty his clip into a brick wall since the baddy ducked for cover. Each time he popped his grubby little head up my ghost would empty another clip until I took him out myself. I think my guy used up 3 clips..he did however provide enough cover fire to allow me to move into position to get eyes on the sniper and set up for a shot.

My take was that the AI was pretty good..but I'm not sure how good it really is at this point.

What I can't seem to easily tell is when I've take a hit. Seems muttled in with just walls and stuff around me busting apart when the shots start flying.

Kinda cool to frag a vechicle or something and see a light post bust off and come crashing down.

None the less....it drew me in for a good hour last night with the GR style slow methodical precise advancement looking for the next "safe" zone to get some eyes around a corner or down a new street or open area. I like it

Re: Demo now...

The only thing I disliked about it was the mouse lag made it impossible to give orders under fire. I would also have to get used to giving commands through the mouse wheel. I'm so used to giving commands and then clicking at the end. I blew myself up once when I clicked instead of pressing middlemouse.
