Hope those 5 domination maps and 9 co-op missions are fun! Of course, that answer is 100% opposite of what we've been told this far which is really, really strange. Here is a large thread from GR.net talking about that interview. The GRIN guy in that thread says it may be a difference in the definition of "mod tools," and that we should believe them and not Ubi...

Yeah, I can confirm 5 domination and 8 coop maps. The coop maps are large, 4 players and linear. Deathmatch and modding tools are supposed to be in a patch due in a month or two. However, that article says no modding tools are planned...

Well the demo was OK but linear gameplay just doesn't cut it these days unless you're a moron. If it cannot be modded, forget it.

Agreed. So far I feel like I'm playing an Xbox 360 game with a mouse and keyboard.

Re: Convince me this is a good purchase....

There will be mod tools, it was a misunderstood interview. And there WILL be dedicated server support also. All in June I guess.

I was hoping they would release the map editor with the game today.... again, I've been disappointed.

Will the game DIE before they're able to release all this stuff? We'll see. In today's market, it's possible. Remember though, BF2 wasnt all that kosher at release either... and look at it now.

Game went gold a long time ago, so what do they care right? For a year and a half worth of work that's a lot of money.

Yes, but even from its start, BF2 improved on the gameplay of its predecessors. From what I can see, GRAW is taking steps backward from what the original Ghost Recon offered/offers. I'm currently very skeptical about GRAW, but will keep an open mind until the "multiplayer patch" and MOD tools (hopefully) arrive.

The demo is quite limited, the release today will keep us busy enough (agreed that Himachi isn't the way it should be done, but they will release a server bianry) until they get the patch with the proper dedicated server, and hopefully some new content.

I still cant find a darned thing that says the release version wont be able to support coop internet play. If it will, of course, we wont need hamachi. Regardless, we need those SADS. And really really need an editor.

p.s.
D2D still doesnt have my DL ready. grrrrr

I bought it, I really like this game, never did like futuristic shooters too much, but this one is one sweet game with tons of potential and a large following.
And I can totally relate with some of y'alls concerns fellas, not picking a fight or nuttin, just putting in my two centavos for some talks on this topic!
I agree.

I still don't know if I'm going to get this or not. I have yet to mod the demo to my, and my system's, liking.

That said, I haven't seen anything that said that the SDK will not be available, and they will release a server eventually.

So I feel like this is all tempest in a teacup. Yes the demo is linear. From what I've been able to play, it seems to be a solid title, with alot of attention to maintaining what was good about Ghost Recon. I feel like I should buy it just to say "Thanks Ubisoft and Red Storm for not screwing us over like you did with Lockdown."

Patience. This title will have legs.

Ya know what... why are we even having this discussion?
This is Ghost Recon. We are TG. Nuff said.

In the by-laws it should say "you must purchase all versions of GR hitherto developed until you die."

Re: Convince me this is a good purchase....

Just a thought, guys. You can make what use of it you will.

If GRAW retail allows the hosting on Internet MP on your personal workstation, keep in mind that, by running that MP through Hamachi, you solve any firewall and port-forwarding issues you might have to deal with when it comes time for you to become the guy that HOSTS the server.

Just a thought. Yes, GRAW retail may allow for hosting Internet games, but Hamachi can solve networking problems. If GRAW's port use is simple, that's mostly moot. If not, don't rule out Hamachi.

Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. The port use will be the usual Gamespy port forwards, which is pretty much everything for most games. Granted, they do vary from game to game.

Creating a virtual network like Hamachi does though seem like it would lag the game worse then a standard IP network. I know when we compared games in Falcon 4.0 Hamachi did tend to worsen the game. Like some of the others said, hamachi is basically a last resort.

To me, it's better to get people to know their routers rather then just try to get around em. Open the ports, hit the DMZ, do whatever.

Re: Convince me this is a good purchase....

You won't need Hamachi. The retail version has Internet support for domination and coop. It also has dedicated server support that can be launched from within the game (useless because most servers don't have the graphics cards to run the game and who wants to admin that over VNC). The dedicated server that will be released with the first patch is so servers won't need a graphics card that meets the minimum specs.
