I suggest getting The All-Seeing Eye to search for regular GR servers. We all have the expansion packs and never play regular GR.

Many of these expansion packs can be found on the discount racks fo small software stores for as little as $10. In fact I have seen a gold or game of the year edition unopened with both expansions and the original for that price before. I would look around or check online for used copies being sold. There is no key needed for online play so you should be able to safley get a working copy this way for prety cheap.
