SOP (Tactics) - Map Grid References
SOP (Tactics) - Map Grid References
All military units are trained to use the standard topographical maps in various sizes, in order to provide exact information as to their own location, the enemy's positions and the location for various mission goals. Being able to inform everyone using a standard format greatly assists in issuing command and control orders, as well as sending contact reports and sitreps. The Ghost Recon and Desert Siege Software provides for rudimentary area maps, but is seriously deficient in providing a standard grid pattern to permit players an easy method of using grid references for the purposes described above. Fortunately, one of our regular on-line players "Kunin" has completely overhauled both the Ghost Recon and Desert Siege maps, adding a complete grid referencing capability, plus many other features. Thank you Kunin! Map Features: 1. Grid Coordinate Numbering System 2. North, South, East, West Markers 3. Grid Size Legend (25m grid squares) 4. Enhanced & fixed grid lines 5. Sharpened-up maps These maps install over regular game maps and DO NOT negatively affect performance or game play on Tactical Gamer servers or any other GR servers. Note: If you have already installed the MANDATORY Tactical Gamer GR Mod v3.0 (Click Here) as well as Frostbite patched to v1.3 that are required to play on any Tactical Gamer GR server, you already have all of the map overlays you will require. Therefore, it is not necessary for you to download those components separately. Unlike military topographical maps where a grid reference can be anywhere from 6 to 8 digits, our Ghost Recon Tactical Gamer maps are much simpler to use with only a 2 figure grid reference. They allow a player to reference a single grid square location on the map down to a granularity of about 25 meters. They have a series of numbers beginning with "1" running across the top of the map and a series of letters beginning with "A" running along the left margin of each map. So, for example, if you wanted to find the grid reference of the yellow mission triangle (cluster of buildings) located in the North West quadrant of the map above, simply examine the letter and number which intersect to form a box (grid square) around the yellow triangle. Therefore, the grid reference of our mission target is E4. Note: When you state a grid reference, always place the letter designator of the box formed over the location first. Example: |42nd| Eternal wants Badger to move to a mission objective (large building) located in North East corner of map shown above. He would say on TeamSpeak, "Badger, move and secure building at Grid Reference D12 (spoken over radio net as Delta One Two)" |42nd| Badger responds by hitting a pre-defined hotkey he's programmed. This results in |42nd| Eternal seeing on his chat screen the words "|42nd| Badger: cc", which gives him direct confirmation that |42nd| Badger has received and understood his transmission. Note: refer to SOP (Radio) - Phonetic Alphabet for details on pronouncing grid references over radio net. Note: refer to SOP (Radio) - "cc" for details on use of radio acknowledgments. After a bit of practice using this technique, it becomes almost second nature and makes it much easier to identify enemy, friendly and other tactical locations on the GR maps. We would encourage all players on any Tactical Gamer Ghost Recon public server, download, install and attempt to utilize the grid reference system SOP as much as possible.
