I just finished volume III of the "Fate of the Jedi" novel series. It is called, "Abyss". I read the first book, "Outcast" but skipped the second because there is a long waiting line for it at the library. The New Republic has become the Galactic Alliance and has gone through a second civil war. Luke Skywalker has been removed as Grandmaster of the Jedi Order and banished along with his son, Ben. Together they set out to discover why Luke's nephew Jacen Solo turned to the dark side and became a Sith Lord. (I'd recommend reading the Dark Nest trilogy and the Legacy of the Force series for background). Unbeknown to the Skywalkers, a hidden tribe of Sith (dark side force users) have marked them for assassination in the first step to gain control of the galaxy and restoration of the Sith Empire. In "Abyss", Luke and Ben encounter a Sith strike team on an ancient space station and the conflict that follows makes good reading. I can't wait for "Backlash"
what is the first novel to read after movies?
Wow a reply. As to your question if you mean after "Return of the Jedi", the next book is Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire which is part of the Thrawn trilogy. Here is a handy star wars fiction timeline whcih can be downloaded: http://suvudu.com/files/2010/07/starwarstimeline.pdf Also, there is a five year gap between Return of the Jedi and Heir to the Empire. That time period is covered by a graphic novel called, "Star Wars: Dark Empire". Zahn makes brief references to this publication in "Heir to the Empire".
Pretty much everything written after the New Jedi Order series (with the exception of Zahn's stuff, the couple independent titles such as Death Star and Millenium Falcon and the Legacy of the Force series) sucks. Everything that doesn't count as sucking is pure awesome.
I have a book that very effectively mixes Star Wars and zombies and Harrison Ford. I'll see if I can find it and I'll get back to you with the name.
