Another strategy for VR placement

A colleague of mine shared the strategy his guild has used to down Void Reaver successfully 3 times.

All healers and ranged DPS should be split into pairs. Each pair is positioned together, standing on top of each other. The pairs are spread out in such a way that no orb can hit the pairs to either side of them.

When an orb targets of the the players in a pair, both players run towards the back, away from the center where VR is being tanked. This minimizes other players having to move as well. It also makes moving around less chaotic and random.

One of the few problems with this strategy is when the other player in the pair gets targeted immediately or soon after the first player in the pair got targeted. This requires additional maneuvers to avoid them. They usually move to the right, once they are towards the back wall.

The other nice thing about this strategy is that even if a pair is hit, no one else should be hit by that same orb.

Thoughts?

That sounds like a good strategy for the healers/ranged DPS although I am kind of leery about the whole "standing on top of each other" business. I don't share my pixels with just anyone y'know...

Historically we've had problems with trying to stack people together. Someone always wants to seperate from the group and gets everyone killed. Eventually we gave up on using strats like that in the past with large groups of people. Mixing two people only may work, but that depends on if one of them don't get an independant streak and runs towards another group making the entire system fall apart.

Re: Another strategy for VR placement

People still need to move somewhat as a group. This attempts to simplify movement to only moving away or towards the center. In this strategy players should not be moving toward other (i.e. sideways around the circle), only back and forward.

The person that gave me the tip said they tried with other movement patterns, even the same as above but with 3 people per group instead of pairs. This pair method has worked the best for them thus far.

Re: Another strategy for VR placement

3 per group around VR sounds better than breaking up into pairs. It would leave more space between the groups.

If you figure 4 tanks, 3-4 melee and a healer in the middle, it should leave for about 5-6 groups of 3 spread out around VR.

So positioning using a clock as reference would be group 1 at 1 o'clock - group 2 at 3 o'clock - group 3 at 5 o'clock - group 4 at 7 o'clock - group 5 at 9 o'clock - group 6 at 11 o'clock

I think it would be worth a shot. Seems like it would be a little more organized and you would have less chance of running into an orb.

Re: Another strategy for VR placement

According to my source, when doing threesomes, they ran into issues with healing range. Since the couple's approach worked, they opted to keep it using pairs.

They now have VR on farm. I think it is worth trying.
