AAR 11/9 Mags/Hydross
Nice work tonight guys, Mags down in 2 shots and on our first night, we got Hydross to 51%.
Hydross definitely isn't a difficult fight, we are definitely capable of doing this, and should get him down next week. Here are the points we learned. 1) Having everyone behind the transition point on each transition dramatically helps in ensuring no bouncing back across the transition line. 2) No AE's on the adds until aggro is solidly set and the tanks have positioned them on top of Hydross. This makes for less bouncing of aggro and allows us to damage both the adds and Hydross. 3) Collapsing onto Hydross to pull the adds to him is great, but we can't do it too early. If we do, he can water tomb us and that will kill the raid. 4) We need to get our off-tanks into some resist gear. Dominus was sucking up a lot of damage because of Consecrate, but didn't have the mitigation to hold it. We need to try to put together a mixed resist set for him (FrR/NR) to help him suck up some of that damage. If anyone finds any NR or FrR plate items, please send them to the platoon bank tgtwofive. 5) If you pull aggro on an add, it is your reponsibility to to the tanks, they should not be leaving their spots because it will pull others out of the AE. Everyone needs to be cogniscent of what is going on and react before things get away. Everyone should be running DBM and it has an aggro alert on it, if you get aggroed, you should be moving before they ever get to you. Don't run away, run towards. 6) We lost Max too often on the transition from Pure to Poison. I think this is mostly due to the adds getting on him and him not being able to mitigate the damage. Max, you probably need to make sure you aren't tanking adds. Guys, we definitely can do this fight. We should be able to down this next week. Everyone please add any thoughts you have. Raids for next week are up. We will be raiding 2 nights next week, Wednesday and Thursday. Lets make sure we can take out Gruul's Lair and Mags (and hopefully Lurker) on Wednesday so we can focus on Hydross (and then hopefully Morogrim Tidewalker) on Thursday. Good work guys.

Re: AAR 11/9 Mags/Hydross
Another focused night! Mags went very smooth. Good work!
On Hydross' 1st phase, Omen did not seem to be measuring threat right. DPS was over the aggro threshold and not pulling, which led me to believe that "going all out on pure unadulterated damage" meant... well, going all out. I pulled Hydross and we wiped. :-( Afterwards, because Omen was not really working, I opted to hold back quite a bit, which is not good either as we need to do 10% per minute. Anyone else had this happen? Any solutions? I will start by updating my add-ons. The other issue I had was during a transition. A fireball went off near the transition. The transition occurred while the fireball was on the air. Whoops. I think the solution to this is moving as a group to reposition just before the transition, as Sajier pointed out. |

Another thought...reread the posted strats!!
Now that we've actually seen and experienced the fight, the posted strats will make a lot more sense to us.

Re: AAR 11/9 Mags/Hydross
Another thing I forgot to mention. It seems to take quite a bit of AoE to down the adds. Each mage AoE spell is 1000+ mana a pop, even more for Blizzard. I found myself a little short on mana on various occasions.
Here is a video from a well-known raiding guild. It seems they tank each mob individually and focus fire them down: http://files.filefront.com/LRvsHydro.../fileinfo.html May be an option if we can afford the tanks and/or if mana become a problem. |
