Last night was a great run. However, we did have one snafu with the Fathomlord (I'm not worry about Leo attempts because we were all learning that fight for the first time). Healing was blamed for Max's death so I parried down the combat log to stuff related to that:

The three healers that were supposed to be on Maxarilius were Wintrow, Pilot, and myself. I think Delectable was helping heal the raid. To summarize the events:

Pilot got hit by two spitfires totems.
Wintrow got hit by one spitfire totem and had a leeching throw dot on him.
Flared got hit by one spitfire totem and one cataclysmic bolt (this does a 2 second stun as well as hitting you for half your max health).

At time 03:06'46, Maxarilius was probably full health (he got hit by a lot of heals for the amount of damage) and basically all three healers assigned to Max were down in health (I was down less than 50% health due to spitfire/cataclysmic bolt combo). At that time, things went to hell. I used a health stone, Pilot healed himself, and Tidalvess decided to do the windfury thing and beat Max to a pulp over 4 seconds. Evidently, I didn't get a heal off in that time (GCD for the health stone and having looked away from the health bars to select the health stone probably slowed me enough so I didn't have the time). Pilot was evidently cleansing (is there something bad here that needs cleansing?). And Wintrow probably didn't get his greater heal off in time either. Oh, by the way, I had a renew on Max the whole time so the "six seconds without a heal" was a lie :-).

We could have done better there and we obviously did on the next attempt.

When 5k hits are involved, 2 tick of renew do not a heal make (700 point heals, each of them).

While HoTs are nice buffers from priests, they are not the same as a 4k direct heal.

We understand that things happen. If we have someone raid healing, they still need to watch the tanks in case of this sort of situation. That said, sometimes crap happens and we move on. We did that last night.

Your right, one HoT isn't likely to save a tank. However, if you get two or more HoTs stacked on the tank it can definitely dampen out the damage and give us more time to deal with the spikes. In my opinion, we should be using them more.

I can guarantee you that I was healing more than just you four, so it must have parsed the rest of that out. I was healing everyone in sight. The downside of raid healing is that you do not focus solely on one persons health bars. So if I saw their health low I would toss HoTs on them. Due to the damn GCD I can't really spam them as needed. Honestly I didn't think I'd need to pay attention to him that much with dedicated healers on him.

Yes, I removed everything from the combat parse that wasn't to Max or involving one of the healers dedicated to the tank to make it smaller (otherwise it would have went on for pages). So the only heals of yours you are seeing are the ones hitting Max, Pilot, Wintrow, or myself. And, for clarification, when I was saying we could have done better I was talking about Pilot, Wintrow and myself. You were doing fine considering the amount of damage the raid was taking.

I'm not too concerned with the specifics here and I don't think Flared's intent was to call anyone out or make excuses for anyone. This was a minor snafu that we obviously recognized and immediately resolved, as we normally do.

Our squad is lucky to have the quality of healers that we do; folks who understand their strengths and can adjust on the fly. Despite the uber-ness, people will still die from time to time....

Amen! Our healers work hard to do their job...I have HUGE respect for their contribution. It's worth looking back to see what could/might have been better as a learning exercise. That's how we get better.

Noting the frost shock in there, did you have a totem down in that grup to eat the frost shock? Makes the randomness seem a heck of a lot easier.

Our only shaman (me) was not in his group, so a totem wasn't going to matter.

Maxarilius were Wintrow, Pilot, and myself. I think Delectable was helping heal the raid. To summarize the events: Pilot got hit by two spitfires totems. Wintrow got hit by one spitfire totem and had a leeching throw dot on him. Flared got hit by one spitfire totem and one cataclysmic bolt (this does a 2 second stun as well as hitting you for half your max health). At time 03:06'46, Maxarilius was probably full health (he got hit by a lot of heals for the amount of damage) and basically all three healers assigned to Max were down in health (I was down less than 50% health due to spitfire/cataclysmic bolt combo). At that time, things went to hell. I used a health stone, Pilot healed himself, and Tidalvess decided to do the windfury thing and beat Max to a pulp over 4 seconds. Evidently, I didn't get a heal off in that time (GCD for the health stone and having looked away from the health bars to select the health stone probably slowed me enough so I didn't have the time). Pilot was evidently cleansing (is there something bad here that needs cleansing?). And Wintrow probably didn't get his greater heal off in time either. Oh, by the way, I had a renew on Max the whole time so the "six seconds without a heal" was a lie :-). We could have done better there and we obviously did on the next attempt.

We understand that things happen. If we have someone raid healing, they still need to watch the tanks in case of this sort of situation. That said, sometimes crap happens and we move on. However, if you get two or more HoTs stacked on the tank it can definitely dampen out the damage and give us more time to deal with the spikes. In my opinion, we should be using them more.

I was healing everyone in sight. The downside of raid healing is that you do not focus solely on one persons health bars. So if I saw their health low I would toss HoTs on them. Due to the damn GCD I can't really spam them as needed. So the only heals of yours you are seeing are the ones hitting Max, Pilot, Wintrow, or myself. And, for clarification, when I was saying we could have done better I was talking about Pilot, Wintrow and myself. You were doing fine considering the amount of damage the raid was taking.

This was a minor snafu that we obviously recognized and immediately resolved, as we normally do. Our squad is lucky to have the quality of healers that we do; folks who understand their strengths and can adjust on the fly.
