Lightbulb Preparation for the path ahead...

Looking beyond our efforts in Hyjal, we are going to need to pull together a number of items both individually and collectively to put us in a position to continue progressing. This post is a general announcement for all to start doing their part in accumulating what we will need. More specifics will follow...

Stamina Gear
All Resurgent members should be certain that they are able to hit a minimum of 10K HP without significantly gimping their primary stats. The first boss in Black Temple will hit the entire raid for 8.5K frost damage several times throughout the fight. While this can be mitigated with frost pots, there are other factors in the fight that demand everyone is able to survive this damage. We will also need 10K+ HP for the Illidari Council later in Black Temple.

Begin acquiring, gemming, enchanting, etc. the necessary gear to boost your stamina enough to get you over 10K HP with full raid buffs. Stamina food is a viable option to push you over the hump. For the sake of complete clarity, these pieces of gear would be separate from your normal gear and swapped in only when you need to stack stamina. These should be epic quality pieces.

As an example, I've re-gemmed and re-enchanted several old pieces of KZ-level (or higher) healing gear with [Solid Star of Elune] and Stamina enchants to build around 4 pieces of gear that I can switch into to boost my Stamina. I still have over 1900 +heal (unbuffed) and very solid mana regen, so I will remain viable during the fight. Perhaps some of those items that you've been passing on while farming KZ may be the best stamina pieces you can find...

Shadow Resist Gear
In addition to helping with some of our present encounters, we are going to need shadow resist gear later in Black Temple. For the Mother Shahraz fight, everyone except for the MT will need to be in full craftable shadow resist epics.

Obviously we are still a bit off from being able to craft those patterns, as they are bought with Ashtongue Deathsworn rep. However, we will need quite a lot of Primals and other mats to make these items. Start gathering the necessary mats to help craft these items! You can send them to me/Gaviin/Talara for deposit in the guild bank or just hang on to them yourselves. Once you have the mats that you need for your gear (the mats you are able to gather), please post to that effect here so we can keep track.

From a quick scan through, all of the SR gear requires some combination of multiple [Primal Life] and [Primal Shadow] so that should be your focus. Also the Shadow Resist cloak enchant requires 8 more [Primal Shadow], so you will need this as well.

Cauldrons
These finally look like they may be useful.

The frost one would help out for the first boss in Black Temple.
The nature one is recommended for phase 3 of the Reliquary of Souls encounter in Black Temple.
The fire one will be needed for Illidan.

Are there any Resurgent mains that are able to make any/all of these cauldrons? If not now, hopefully we have an alchemist willing to work at discovering these. I'd imagine the guild could help out with mats for potions that can later be turned into injectors. Please let us know in this thread.

Additional guidance will follow, but like I said, I wanted everyone to have ample time to start accumulating what they will need.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

It just occurred to me that not all Resurgent members may be far enough along the proper quest chain to be ready to get the [Blessed Medallion of Karabor] once we get back to TK and down Al'ar. Because this will be a critical piece of Shadow Resist gear useful to everyone, please be sure that you have completed the prerequisite quest chain in full and are at the same point as the rest of us.

The initial quest chain begins with Tablets of Baa'ri that can be picked up at either the Aldor or Scryer bases in Shadowmoon Valley, depending on your allegiance. As you can see, this quest chain involves some very basic quests (killing and gathering) and ultimately leads you to the Warden's Cage in Shadowmoon Valley where Akama and the Ashtongue Deathsworn are. You will have to visit Arcatraz to speak with Udalo, who is right before the last boss's room, and ultimately finish the quest line off with a group at the Ata'mal Terrace (Black Temple).

Once this chain is complete, the next chain begins off an NPC in SSC who is caged behind Fathom-Lord Karathress. This quest leads ultimately to Ruse of the Ashtongue which requires you to kill Al'ar. This is the point to which all Resurgent members should be (except Del because she's so uber). We will soon be heading back to TK to take down Al'ar and continue along this chain. Please be certain that you are to this point.

If you are behind, or have not started these chains, please post here. If we need to go back to SSC to start the second quest chain, we can coordinate that. But everything up to that point can easily be coordinated individually. Any questions, let me know or consult WowHead.com.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

Anticipate that Resurgent will be making a push into Black Temple one night during the raid week of 4/29. We will be putting in attempts on the first boss, so consider this your deadline to get whatever stamina gear you need to boost you over 10k HP (fully raid buffed). I will reiterate, your stamina gear must be epic quality (no greens).

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

For those of us that have been skimping hardcore on the Black Temple Quest, When is our next SSC run going to happen, so i know when to be ready to do that part of the quest?

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

I have not yet completed the prerequisite quests in full yet, but as of now am to the stage of needing to run Arc. I don't know that I will be able to complete Arc (and then the followup questline) in time to hit SSC this week due to travel - if that is the plan, please advise, and I'll make every effort to create time. I can definitely have it completed by this coming weekend. Due to work and travel, I will almost certainly miss the raid on Wednesday, 4/23, but will be back for the Thursday/Friday raids that week.

Regarding the 10k stam requirement, I can achieve this now raid-buffed switching out gear, losing about an effective +140 spell damage.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

We won't be in SSC this week; I don't have an exact date when we will. I'd anticipate it being possible that we head there next week if enough people need to start the quest line.

I have started this quest chain but I'm not quite sure where I am in the progression. I'll check right away.

EDIT: I have to go into Arcatraz to find Seer Udalo. So...LFG to run Arcatraz!!!

EDIT 2: With stam gems in place, I can get to about 9,500 health unbuffed.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

Your new warlock recruit, Domm, here...

Regarding the Medallion, I am currently at the Ata'mal Terrace part of the quest chain, and will make it a priority to get it done. If anyone else needs it, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help out (even if I get it done beforehand). So it goes without saying that I will need to go to SSC in order to get the second part of the quest chain.

As for the 10k hps, my current gear affords me just over 10k in health when fully raid buffed. Should more be required, I have a full compliment of pvp gear that I can swap in for individual pieces as well as a few pieces of old gear I can re-gem and re-enchant.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

Great discussion thusfar. Looks like there are several people needing to polish off parts of that quest chain, so finding groups to help a certain points shouldn't be too tough.

Let's hear from others on the quest and stam gear...

Shadow Resist Gear - More details

Thanks to Bigslick for doing the homework on this one....

The resistance cap we'll need to achieve is 365 shadow resistance. After factoring out 70 from Prayer of Shadow Protection and 40 from [Blessed Medallion of Karabor], that leaves 255 to come from gear. According to Wowwiki, the craftable sets all have the same requirements, except for one that differs based on the armor type (cloth, leather, etc). Basically, each armor set includes cloak, bracers, waist, legs, and boots, and will require [Heart of Darkness] x9, plus the following farmed mats:

[Void Crystal] x5
[Primal Life] x13
[Primal Shadow] x18
[Bolt of Imbued Netherweave] x1

Additionally, the following mats are needed based on your armor type:

[Bolt of Imbued Netherweave] x5 (cloth)
[Fel Hide] x11 (leather)
[Fel Scales] x11 (mail)
[Adamantite Bar] x28 (plate)

There are more than enough [Void Crystal] in the guild bank to fund such an endeavor for all squad members so no one should worry about farming for these themselves. The remaining primals and other mats can easily be accumulated over a week of casual farming.

All of these combined yield +370 shadow resistance to exceed the cap, without the need for the Shadow Resist cloak enchant. There is a possibility that everyone could still reach the cap without crafting the wrist piece: by adding the cloak enchant (15) and a [Shadow Armor Kit] on both the SR legs and feet, we can make up for the 30 SR lost by not using the wrist piece.

Of course, that means you are unable to enchant those pieces as normal to make up for your lost primary stats, but it means keeping your primary wrist piece equipped for the fight (with all its stats). Raid Leadership will consider the preferred approach once we get to that point.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

Well I'm at the point in the quest chain to kill Al'ar, so I'm good on that. But I'll help anybody who needs any on earlier parts of the chain, just let me know if you need me. I've also decided that, since my stamina is nothing short of horrible, I'm going to spec holy on non-raid days to pvp (the only way i like to) and possibly get some stamina gear that way

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

My stam is also pretty craptacular but I'm working on some pieces to use. I've regemmed [Handwraps of Flowing Thought] with [Solid Star of Elune] and enchanted [Footpads of Madness] with a +12 stam enchant to flip out in place of the [Frozen Shadoweave Boots]. More work to do but trying to do this withouth gimping dmg too much so I'm being very deliberate. I will have the 10k necessary soon though.

Re: Preparation for the path ahead...

The fastest way to get 'stamina gear' is to do PvP and pick up some of the gladiator sets. They typically have high stamina and 'decent' secondary stats for your class.

They also have some worthless PvP stats, but there's not much you can do about that.

So...update...I've completed the quest line up to the point of needing to speak to Olunn(?) next to Karathress in SSC.
