Mages: Blinking towards tank for Anetheron Infernals

Gaze suggested blinking towards the infernal tank when targetted by Anetheron. I did not get a chance to try this, since I was not targetted again.

I am wondering if this will prevent the infernal from damaging you. Since the infernal will fall on the target even if the target is moving, I am not too sure. Any other mage tried this and knows if it works? I think we could test this on the infernals in BEM, south of Ogri'la, because they cast a meteor spell that looks similar to the mechanics of the infernals.

Once I successfully manage to run towards the tank, I will still die once the infernal lands. I am trying to mitigate this a bit by increasing stamina and (potentially) equiping some FR (neck and ring probably). Beyond that, I would consider a blink ice block macro, which will save me at least once. Or maybe a blink and fire shield macro to absorb some of the fire damage.

Is the mechanic that the person targeted "fixes" the coordinates of the landing spot of the Infernal at the time of targeting? That is pretty common in many instance encounters. If so, then running "early" or blinking could be a good avoidance tactic. BigWigs is giving a second or two warning of targeting for me, so if I'm paying close attention, I start running as soon as I'm targeted.

If their targeting is similar to the meteors cast by the Infernals in BEM, they follow you. I've strafed, turned & run, etc. after they launch it and it smart-targets. Still worth a shot, though - if nothing else it puts you closer to the Infernal tank.

Re: Mages: Blinking towards tank for Anetheron Infernals

Beep, it seems to hit where ever the person was when the boss finishes casting the spell. I know as the tank getting aggro on the adds that since I can't stop the impact damage, and likely even a pulse afterwards any method that the squishies can use to survive would help out my conscience a lot. I can't even target the adds until they fully spawn, so the person typically takes the stun, the impact, and a pulse before my spell hits. One possible suggestion would be if those with low hp can get nightmare seeds or something to increase their health that they can pop when they're being targeted? Because it seems as though any and every cloth wearer is getting wtfpwned when they're targeted.

Re: Mages: Blinking towards tank for Anetheron Infernals

Since we're stacked up each other we're getting splash damage from infernals - and that was as much of a problem last night as the people being targetted dying. The one time I was targetted I lived through the impact, the stun, and a pulse as I was running back but it wiped out 2 or 3 others. On the first attempt I died when someone in my group was targetted but I'm pretty sure we'd just been hit by Carrion Swarm and I wasn't at full health. I don't remember this being as much of an issue last week. Is it people not moving fast enough or does everyone else in the ranged groups need to be moving as well (ie sliding up)?

Note: I'm going just on memory here - the WWS que is too long atm to get any data.

You can see who is being targeted for the infernal. If you see that someone in the group you are standing in is being targeted for the Infernal, you should be getting away from him, and he should be running to the infernal tank...there really shouldn't be any splash damage taken by anyone else because you should be running in different directions.

Re: Mages: Blinking towards tank for Anetheron Infernals

Good to know - if I'm the only one that needed clarification on that then great. One more assumption here is that we should be moving in a straight line toward the boss and not side to side so as not to drag healers and the other ranged groups into a potential carrion swarm. If this is incorrect please let me know.

Re: Mages: Blinking towards tank for Anetheron Infernals

I think if you are the target, you need to move towards the Infernal tank and away from your group. If you are in the group with the person being targeted, I think you should still move a little bit away from the group and the road, to try to avoid splash damage.

Last night, Anetheron was out to test the mages. The first target was Amelie, followed by me. The good news is we passed the test. I was able to Blink towards Aestryd and "oh @#$% Ice Block FTW!", which prevented my death. However, in all the excitement, I did not see where the Infernal landed. I believe it landed away from the group, but I did not see it land right on me while Ice Blocked.
