Alright...I like being pleasantly optimistic. As a prelude to the final event a small squad of dedicated
TG(ites?) hit the raiding scene on normal difficulty this week.
Yesterday we got to phase 3 of Malygos on our first attempt.
On the platoon side we have only the construct wing, Sapphiron, and Kel'thuzad left in Naxx and we've already cleared the Obsidian Sanctum. That means barring some epic fail on Grobbulus and Thaddius, Resurrgent will ALSO be on Malygos by as early as Sunday and late as Monday.
Which brings me to my original point. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! You know how we said you could jump off the twin peaks in Feralas for practice on timing Air burst in Mount Hyjal? Well they made it easier for people to practice Malygos.
At level 80 you get the quest
Corastrasza in Coldarra which then opens up the quest
Aces High! that turns into the daily
Aces High!.
The thing is that drake that Corastrasza has you using to take down Scalesworn elites? Its practically the same exact drake that you command in phase 3 of the Malygos encounter.
Use it! Learn it! Love it! That drake is the only thing keeping you from dropping into the eye of eternity and death during that phase and since we need to find a way to burn down 8 MILLION hp in the heroic version with those drakes people better be competant and do some serious damage without getting killed. Its like a beefed up version of the Oculus except with more focus on individual performance than the failure of your group.
Hell, if you need even MORE practice, Corastrasza will lend you a drake even after you've completed the daily.
Some things you need to focus on:
Control and distance - You need to keep 30 yards between you and every other raid member in a full 360 sphere around you. Getting within 30 yards of Malygos will kill you with his aura and 30 yards of a raid member will chain damage to them that'll kill you both. The drakes in the daily take more damage in melee than they do at a distance. Actually...if you're within 30 yards of a scalesworn after a pull they'll close to melee so pull them and get a distance where they won't follow and you'll have a general idea of a 30 yard sphere.
Self Healing and DoT control - You can stack 5 stacks of healing that should always be on you and you can apply a high damage DoT that will do 1500 every tick every application. The trick is energy control and charge management. Extra charges on your target will result in just a longer DoT, so some people focus on short duration dots and stack it so they get 10+ charges before they work on longer DoTs once they hit the high numbers so it doesn't stack. 22 seconds of 1500 damage a tick isn't as useful as 14 seconds of 15000 a tick. You also shouldn't let your self healing HoTs fall off or you'll get killed by random damage and remember you ARE your own healer (BYOH).
The 'Oh CRAP!" button - Malygos will also focus on one target member and blast them with a huge nuke that will kill you unless you shield up. The shield costs 25 energy and lasts 2-6 seconds based on how many charges you've stacked on either yourself or your target. Like rogues you'll lose charges if you act on another target. If you want to practice this then its very similar to the scalesworn elites arcane blast which does 22k a second during the daily...except it does 12000 every half second for 3 seconds. If you don't deal with it properly death promptly follows and death is an annoying debuff that reduces all damage and healing by 100%. No battle rezs either so that's a loss of a potential 5000+ DPS we have to soak up. Long story short? Don't die!
